Great review! I loved the sample for this already - and I'm completely okay with curse words so this sounds like a great read.

The review really helps set more in motion for me, after reading blurbs and the intro. Having grown up in the South and very poor, though, in a more recent era, these stories always intrigue me. And I have to say, I am quite use to colorful language and its prominent uses in poverty stricken southern areas.

That is good to know! I have a hard time with those ones as well. It's a shame because the book sounds great otherwise.

Nice review! I enjoy historical fiction. I'm debating whether I should read this one. I'm not sure I could handle the blasphemous curse words. Other than that, it sounds like a well-written and emotional novel.

Sounds like a great book! I always find that books with the best character development are the most difficult to put down.

The sample I read was potent. This appears to be one of those books that those who don't read it will have missed out on a really good book.

I really enjoyed this review. I like that I know in advance that there is some cursing and some adult situation. I want to read this book. I am very curious to find out how Drew's life turned out. Was he able to get away from the sad down trodden life he grew up in.

This was a great review. The pain, abuse, lies, incest and racial discrimination. This was a part of Drew's mom's and his life. His mom had been molested and raped by her own father. She had also carried on a sexual relationship with her abusive brother. She had been pregnant by George but he had a wife and family. He used her and moved on. Edith had been used and rejected and had no love for her own child. She was a murder, prostitute and drunk. She said she hated black people but she bedded black men to. This book is really something to read. Edith looked for love in all the wrong places. She didn't respect herself or son.
