Interesting perception. I can see what you mean about trying to interpret what is being described through all the descriptive words. I too stopped reading a book because I felt like the author was trying too hard to describe things and it really took away from the story that was being told. I suppose I probably just glossed over some of the over descriptions as I read, because I had no problems "watching" the story as I read. I think some parts were easier than others. As I mentioned before, the story at times is a bit scattered. I am sorry that the frustration it caused was not worth it. :(

Oh, I love descriptive writing, but when authors use descriptive words for simply the sake of the words and not the description, it is like a lot of rap music that throws words together simply for the rhyme, leaving the meaning a secondary concern. It is like a monkey throwing paint on a canvas and the owner selling it as abstract art.
I'm not criticizing your review, or those who found enjoyment in the book. Having not finishing the book, I can only suspect those positive discoveries were from within the reader rather than from the writer.
I continue to surprise myself over how venomous I feel about this book.

But it really wasn't its descriptive writing that ended it for me. It was its credibility.

I think I was drawn into the complexity of everything, but it really doesn't get into that until about halfway through (or more). I think it was at that point that I went from "just reading" to being sucked in. Trying to wrap my brain around the idea being proposed and the conspiracy behind it. I believe the piece as a whole has its merits, but there are aspects that could be improved.

I usually read romance novels, but this book sounds interesting so I'll give it a try, lol.

Very nice review on what sounds like might have not been the easiest book to read. I am interested in the story now and this is not the type of book I would typically choose! :D

The reviewer says that 'he is very intellectual and the concepts presented in this book are above average intelligence. This book is perfect for a reader that likes stimulating material and can follow complex ideas.'

If this book is anything like the other book that I read by the same author, i think that I will definitely enjoy it. I'm looking forward to it being the BOTM.

Topcho wrote:I just downloaded this book in hopes to join in for the May Book of the month. At first, when I read the annotation, I wasn't very excited. Didn't sound like my type of read. But now after your review, I can't wait for May. It sounds to me like a Doctor Who arc, lol!

I am still undecided about this book, but your comment about your thinking it could tie in with a Doctor Who type thing caught my interest. I was wondering if you have now read the book, and if you would say the same thing?

Everyone is so positive about this book, whilst I threw it down before I finished the first chapter. There is something in it that I am missing; so will have to put aside my prejudices and read it with a more open mind.
