How to START to write a story

I'm also a young writer, bit older, but started the same age. Glad to see I'm not the only one doing it like this. I'm just curious, what styl are you writing. Me, I'm big on fantasy from midievel times. Try writing really short... 'essays' you might call it. If it's really good and you like it, it could become a longer story.
Hope you work things out for yourself.

I don't actually write yet. I keep mental records on what to write. I like fiction, it is very creative and fun to write.

Thats also what I did for about a year before I really put pen to paper. You'll get there

Your idea of starting on paper is a great one. Now its time to get the story onto the PC.
Don't fret over the 'exact' opening words, focus on writing what is in your head NOW. Later the sections can be merged into the story line. As you have a 'paper draft' this should work. You don't have to start writing page one first !!!!
For my own work the opening words changed a few times as the story was tweaked.
Be prepared to spend one year on the story, and also prepare yourself for ALL kinds of feedback. Good and Bad, it can all help. Lastly think about who will proof read, and then who will edit the work. Editing takes time and skill, self editing is a very bad idea.
Anyway just my thoughts. Have fun writing.

Okay, personally, it took me a long time to figure out what to write about, how to write it, pick a genre, and to figure out how to get the words out of my head and onto the screen. If this is your problem, your thinking about it way too much. Trust me. If your mind set is "i want to be a writer, so i'm going to write, i dont even care what its about as long as i'm writing", your going to fail. If i would have had this advice from the beginning, or figured it out sooner, i would have had alot of books published already. But once i did figure all of this out and put it all aside, i was able to write more freely. And now i am getting a book published.

Think, of course, but your looking and thinking about it from the wrong end. Thinking is the best thing you can do, true. When your in a car, while your eating, trying to sleep, while your showering, whatever. The best lines come to you when you least expect it. I stay in "work mode" all the time, so my husbands gotten use to me pulling out a notebook in the middle of dinner and scrambling to get the line or idea out of my head before i forget it.
That doesnt mean i'm trying to pop up a story. Just think normally. Think about life. Dont fret about what genre, or whats going to happen in the book. And dont, under ANY circumstance write like your trying to impress someone. You'll come off smug, or if its written wrong, you'll come off stupid. Write to your own speed, with no one in mind but yourself. The book, especially your first one, is a huge part of who you are. Its part of you. If you feel brave enough to give it all you have and put yourself out there raw, do it. Dont care what people will think, because if there is a part of your book that your worried about people judging you for, most likely it will make them respect you more for being able to bare that much. Even if its just baring a piece of your soul, thinking or beliefs. But make sure your comfortable with it. Your all that matters when it comes to your book. Its one of the few times your allowed, and should be, selfish. If it helps to shut the world out while you write, do it. If music helps, do that. When you start writing, or you reach a dry spell and cant get a hold of your thoughts in order to write, look up proverbs or quotes to get a thought. Type or write a few stupid sentences, doodle. Thats what i do. Thoughts will come to you, words will pop up, a story will form, and it will pick its own genre that way. Play with the characters, make them your own. Never think "I cant do that..." in a book. EVER. Because you can. If its something no ones seen before, and that scares you, that should be more ambition to go for it. Think about the characters. Their personalities, histories, thoughts, wants, superpowers, whatever. Let them tell you the story, not the other way around. If you focus on that, i can garauntee the story will form, along with the genre, and whatever else your worried about. The main reason so many "would be writers" arent writers is because they're scared. Of what they can do, of what they think they cant do, of what people will think of them or their books, ect. There is so much fear when it comes to writing, its ridiculous. People have this eternal fear when it comes to letting people into their thoughts nowdays. Do you think Shakespeare cared? Jane Austen? The dude that wrote Clockwork Orange made his own language for God sake. He did things most people wouldnt even think of. And he's known for that book (i just forgot his name. I think anthony something, but thats not the point. The stories well known.) And I'm pretty sure Miss Bronte was worried about how open and raw she wrote when she finished Wuthering Heights, but she still put it out there. She let people see inside her soul, and it's an amazing classic because of that. Because she said what she felt, what other people had felt and was afraid of admitting, she put words to feelings that people couldnt describe. Open yourself up, let people see inside your brain, your soul, and your pretty little thoughts, and people will love respect you for it. And remember tat not everyone is going to like your story. There is not one book in this world that everyone agrees on, and there never will be. I dont like the Twilight Saga, but i respect Stephanie Meyer for doing something new to the vampire franchise. Dont let criticizm or fear stop you for a minute.

Personally, I was never able to write a book until I wrote one. That sounds weird but let me explain, I spent years writing things down and then crossing them off. I have a collection of about twenty notebooks full of crossed off story beginnings. Finally I found a writing event called nanowrimo. The goal of the event is to write a50,000 word novella in the month of November. I decided to sign up for the contest, and at the end of the month I was able to do it. The book that resulted was absolutely atrocious. The reason for this was, I didn't stop to edit. But , once the month was over I was able to go back and rewrite the book into something semi-decent. It was ten times easier to do this because I already had a skeleton for my book, I just needed to do a little editing. The point is, you shouldn''t be too worried if it isn't perfect the first time around. If you just start writing and keep going you'll feel ten times more confident when you finish the book. Not everything has to be perfect.

I remember when I was little I would go to the store when it was back to school and stock up on notebooks so that I can write. When I started writing it was always in a form of a play. The characters in the beginning and an intro on each. I would make sure I used pencil because my mind was always wandering with ideas. We couldn't afford a processor. I bought my first typewriter at age 12 or 13 and didn't use it much. I gave it away and now I own 3 computers. I never didd write a book but sometime I think about it and say it is never to late to start.

I had the idea for my first novel in my head for many years, but never knew how to sit down and actually turn it into a cohesive tale. Then my brother lent me 'Sometimes The Magic Works' by Terry Brooks.

Read it. It's a great read and a great help for any aspiring writer.

Start with the most interesting part.
If you have an idea in mind about what you wanna write then you must have thought about the climax whether it be someone dying or a love story where they finally end up together write it how you picture it. If you can’t picture it then maybe it’s a story that you’re not really interested in.
