Male/Male romance eBooks, any other fans?

Post by CarrieBrown36 »

One of my favorite things about having a Nook is having a handy device to read the Male/Male romantic fiction that is available in eBooks. There are tons out there and I've found several great authors like Kim Dare and Syd McGinley. I was wondering if anyone else on here is a fan of this kind of fiction? It is also known as slash fiction or gay fiction. It is mostly erotica (it seems to be a requirement of the companies that publish them) but I quite enjoy them and know there are many other fans of this type of writing. The audience seems to be mostly female although I've chatted with a few men who read M/M novels. I'd love to know if anyone here reads this genre and has any recommendations.

Don't have any recommendations and haven't read any in a long time. You brought up some old memories. I used to read m/m when I was a teenager. I'm not entirely sure why I stopped. Perhaps I should give one a go again to see if it's still fun to read :)

I love slash fiction. So long as it's not too "broke back mountain". I haven't read anything that I'm raving about. The best lately is the last entry in the black dagger brotherhood series by J.R. Ward. This is a full male/male relationship so more erotica than the typical porn treatment of the subject. I personally thought that she handled the male/male subtext in other novels in this series better than she did the full on relationship in this book.
If I look for a positive point to end on; it would be that this is mainstream and in a very popular series. She also has a larger than expected male reader base. (I think this would be called paranormal romance.) So to take a subject that is tip toed around and dealing with it in a manner that didn't imply that it was a dirty, secret. I think that is the part that defines what I like or dislike in this area. Erotica vs. porn. I love the erotica but the porn not so much. A lot of people don't see a difference. I tell them the best definition I had ever heard was that in porn someone gets degraded for someone's enjoyment. Erotica is enjoyment of a sexual nature for pleasurable end results for all participants. That's an idea I can get behind.

Lorelei James had 2 of her books that had m/m in it. It wasn't splashed through out the whole book, but I thought that it was done in a tasteful manner that made the reader want more. You can find them in her Rough Rider series.

Hmmm...I have never heard of Slash Fiction. I must say though that I am now kind of curious. I think I will have to look into this. I'm not big into erotica, but if it has a good storyline behind it and the erotica doesn't over shadow it, I will read it.

I love the CUT AND RUN SERIES by Abigail Roux and Madeleine Urban. For me it has everything on the genre. Erotica, action, suspense, romance, angst... It has a lot of lessons too, about acceptance, bravery, passion, love, courage... I'm not a fan of male/male romances at first but when I started reading the first book in the series I got hooked. But so far I can't find another book that can top this series.

I have read several m/m books and I would certainly recomend the Cut & Run series by Abegail Roux as well.
I think that it's a great combination between suspense and something sweet which is emotions.
Madelein Urban, who worked with Abegail Roux on Cut & Run have another work together as well which I personally love, Warrior's Cross which has the same theme as Cut & Run; suspense and action with detectives and such are involved.
If you wanna go for lighter ones though, there are always gay young adult books such as Play Me I'm Your by Madison Parker or the one I'm currently crazy about, Tales from Foster High Series (five books and a few short stories) by John Goode.

It's so difficult to find really good books in this genre, but it is great to see that there is market enough for it to be a genre all its own. :) A book I read fairly recently was "Nor Iron Bars a Cage" by Kaje Harper. It was a fascinating read, and I fully plan on opening it up again sometime soon!

One of my favorite series of all time deals with M/M romance. I can't remember the names of the books or the series right now, but it is a fantasy series by Mercedes Lackey about the Herald Mage Vanyel of Valdemar. I probably read that series half a dozen times in my twenties. No erotica, though, just straight fantasy and romance. It would probably be YA today.

I just looked them up on Amazon. It's the Last Herald Mage trilogy and the books are Magic's Pawn, Magic's Promise, and Magic's Price.

Mercedes Lackey has a lot of same-sex pairings scattered throughout her books, but this trilogy is my favorite.

I cannot say that I have actually ever heard of Slash Fiction. I think I will now have to do some book searching for I am now curious to see how the stories would turn out. :D

I'm a pretty big fan of slash fiction though I've just started to really enjoy reading eBooks. I admit that some of it's problematic and some terribly written, but notwithstanding that, I enjoy the genre. Most recently I read Try by Ella Frank, Stalker by R.D. Hero, and Blame it on the Mistletoe by Eli Easton. I am also currently reading Shiny by Amy Lane.

Personally, I liked Try most out of the three. It is more on the pornographic side, but the characters are endearing enough. Blame it on the Mistletoe is more on the boring side and I didn't find the characters as endearing, more like tropes than actual people. Stalker is also on the pornographic side and has some questionable content. There's a couple of scenes that can read as non-consensual, so there's my trigger warning. Despite that flaw, however, Stalker probably has the most interesting premise.

I have enjoyed quite a few slash fictions but nothing on the e-reader yet. It is pretty risqué most of the time and that is what keeps me going back for more. The author's way of leaving their inhibitions behind and going all out.

I don't mind Male/Male romance in books and will read them when an author I like has written one. But generally I only read them when there is a female involved as well.
