I was coerced into reading the second book because I was so appalled at the first one. I don't understand why or how people do that stuff and I guess I really don't care. But I did care about Christian Grey. I don't know why. He was a beast but there was also that vulnerable side to him that kept me reading. I think he truly loved Ana but he just didn't know how to show her or tell her like a "normal" person would.inyourfavor wrote:I loved this book series and not just for the sex scenes. The whole love story between mr. Grey and Anastasia is what hooked me into it. Every page i turned all i wanted to know wasnwhat would happen to them. Would they stay together and have steamy sex and just love one another or would it all come crashing down. I had bought the first one and didnt even get five chapters in before going back and buying the other two books right away because i love it that much. Would definitely continue to read this book series over and over again
I've read the series twice. The first time, I was filled with shock and awe. I read it the second time over a year later and was able to dig into the characters and see things I hadn't seen during the first reading.
I think it's important to keep in mind that this is not a romance. It is a love story. Big difference.
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.

I've seen worse on network TV.1rskrypka wrote:I read the series just because every one was talking about it and there was so much controversy over it. Not sure what it was about other than boy meets girl they have lots of sex and supposedly live Happily Ever After. Not a series I would recommend to many people unless you are really into that. Can't quite figure out how they made a movie out of it and didn't have an "X" rating attached to it.

There wasn't really a plot other than a man and woman meet and there sex life.
I didn't enjoy this book at all as it dragged quite a bit and nothing really happend
0/5 starts for me.

I have to agree but in all honesty, I had to put the first book down more than once. It was just too intense and I didn't like what was going on. I wasn't going to read the second one but my sister practically but a figurative gun to my head and made me. The third one I didn't need any coercion.skgolden wrote:This trilogy and the new edition from Grey's view (can't wait!) has shaken the nation simply because of its pornographic tales but really I have read other books that have been just as graphic the only difference is the whole sex toy thing. I did not read the book because of the R rated scenes, the love story behind all of that and the back story of Christian Grey is what kept me going, I could not put any of these books down! It is a must read but please have an open mind, and remember this trilogy is WAY more than just sex.
I waited a year or so and then read them again and although I was able to see the love story the first time, it really came out the second time around. I was also able to really dig into the character of Christian Grey.
Another thing that blows my mind is all of these goody two shoes who have never picked up a copy or a read a word of it but are passing judgment on it based on the opinions of others. It's definitely not mainstream and some of it was rather pornographic but as twisted as it seems, there was a real love story there and too many people can't get by the whips and bondage to see that. It was hard for me to do it but once I did it, it wasn't so bad.

I read all the stories in this series and as I mentioned it's not great writing. In fact, I think this book could be turned into a drinking game where every time Anastasia Steele says "Oh my!" you take a shot. The reader would be blotto by the end of chapter 2. It got so repetitive that I began hearing George Takei saying "Oh my!" each time Anastasia would. I really doubt that's what E.L. James was shooting for lol. That's not to say I didn't enjoy the book for what it was. It did entertain me and that's was the goal of my reading this story...to be entertained.
From what I understand this began as a fan-fic from Twilight and that Edward and Bella from that series are the inspirations for Christian & Anastasia as well.

As I've mentioned, I liked the series as a whole but the one thing that grated on my nerves was Ana's whispering. My God, did the woman ever really speak?!
I can't say one way or the other about it being Twilight fan-fic. I didn't read any of the books and I didn't watch but the first movie and thought it was pretty bad. But I've heard the same thing.

Oh believe me! Next chance I have with my closest friends this is going to be tested...we shall see who remembers what happened the next day and how far we actually get in the book!khudecek wrote:The drinking game and the George Takei remarks made me laugh. They're absolutely true, though.
