Finn wrote:... the 'over-hyped' scenes of unrealistic sexual waffle..
...... Might I point out that just because some peoples sexual experience Isnt as... Shall we say 'graphic'?.... As this poorly written book, that doesn't mean its 'unrealistic' in other, especially D/s, relationships. Especially considering this book is about a D/s relationship and NOT about what is considered as normal relationships.. what's normal in ones mind and life is extremely different than what is normal in another's. We see it as wrong and unrealistic, true. D/s see it as their view of the norm. It's a very badly written look into their world.

In that respect, you are completely correct, though why EL James feels the need to publish such utter graphic, and at many points disturbing, nonsense, and claim that it is 'legitimate reading material' when it is in fact blatant pornography is beyond me. In my eyes, for a books prolific selling point to be the detailed accounts of the calculated demeaning of women does not make it valid literature

Honestly Finn I'm not arguing with you, or insulting anyone. I respect your views. And I agree that its poor taste for literature, as I wasn't fond of the book either. I was only trying to explain the book and nothing else. Nearly making my point as you are, since this is a Book discussion. There are far more disturbing books than this out there. True, James wrote the book, but its the readers that made it so huge. It was meant to have come from some Twilight fan fic I do believe ( could be wrong) so that's one of the reasons its become bigger than it should have been. And though I do agree with you on the demeaning women concept, again it is the relationship she literally signed up for. As many subs do. It's something new that many readers haven't read nor thought of.

I"m an avid reader but hadn't heard of or noticed Fifty Shades of Grey until my daughter said her book club was reading them. So I thought I will check them out while I'm traveling. I found the books interesting in that behind the obvious sex there were vulernable people with all the human frailities. Their humaness was what caught my interest. The books were a fun read for me.

Latest Review: "The Littlest Angel" by Heidi Chandler

I've heard about this book here and there and wasn't sure exactly what it was about. So I looked it up online and it does seem just like any other book that's loaded with emotions and sex. Some people will love it and some people will not. Reading a book is like playing a game.... every person's perception and opinion on it is different.

I recommend the Twilight series by Stephenie Meyer if you haven't already read them, The Dark Hunter series by Sherrilyn Kenyon, and His Every Desire series by Emma Rose. All of so good in their own way.

I started reading '50 Shades of Grey' during an island vacation in Rarotonga- books were sparse and my sister had the trilogy on her Kindle. She warned me beforehand of the lack of literary merit, which turned out to be an understatement. I only got about half way through it, then I started flicking through to find all the 'sexy' places, just to find that they weren't particularly sexy at all. The characterizations in the book were so flaccid and unitetesting that by the time he was spanking the he'll out of her I just didn't care about what happened to them. The book obviously has it's place, if the hype is anything to go by, and I like the concept of women writing erotica, but honestly, this really didn't do it for me.

Along with Ant, I havent read it either unless you count purusing the book in the cook book section so noone would see me.   All of my book club are reading it, though not as our book of the month ,and many of my friends. Opinions are so varied from loving it, to "whats all the fuss about.". No one I have spoken to expects it to be a literary masterpiece and some think it is just trash. We book lovers are so different in our tastes likes and dislikes, makes it all so interesting :D

It's loaded with a whole bunch of sex. I was skeptical to reading it at first but now that I've started I can't put them down.

I personal enjoy they shades of grey trilogy. Yes it is erotic but not how some people made it out to be. Lots of people think its about whips and chains but there's only like may two parts where he actually uses his "red room of pain" as Ana called it. And if your not in to the whole erotica thing, do what I did, once the sex parts get repetitive just skim through that part because the whole story line of the book is amazing. The trials that they go through as a couple and love that have for each other is breath taking, you always wanna know what's gonna happen next. I recommend seriously everybody needs to read this trilogy, and again if u don't like sex scenes just skim through them, I mean read at least all the ones in the first book there really not that bad but after the first book skim through those parts and just enjoy the story it really is beautiful.

Somehow I don't think so!
So you think I should spend my hard earned EUR on three books large sections of which I would then skim over ... now, please why would I want to do that?
