So you're a big fan of 19th century novels? (Austen)

What about the 20th century writers puts you off? Austen is quite placid by comparison. Do you prefer such?

I have read all the Harry Potter books, Casual Vacancy, and The Cuckoos CAlling.

I did not enjoy the Cuckoos Calling. I felt it dragged. I also felt like a different author wrote it. I love Rowlings writing style. You see it in Harry Potter and the Casual Vacancy. However, she changed it for the Cuckoos Calling.

I just bought Silkworm because I am determined to read everything she writes. I hope this book turns out to be better.

Usually they only disappoint me by disappearing, or by ending a series. Jo Dereske recently completed a series of cozy mysteries about a librarian. I believe she wrote 15. She did end the series in a satisfactory manner. She married her off, and it appeared likely that her life was going to go in a different direction and she might find something more to do with her life buy solve murders. But I could have read many more of these books. They had just enough suspense, and the characters were engaging and unique.

She is not my favorite author but I was sooo in love with S.C. Stephens thoughtless and conversion series. But it was like the last book in the conversion series was written by a completely different author. It was sooo boring and so unlike S.C. Stephen's writing style.

I would have to say that Juliet Mariller disappointed me a bit. I'm a big fan of 'Daughter of the Forest' & 'Son of the Shadows', but the books that come after these two are seriously disappointing. I mean the first two were amazing. They were beautifully detailed and kept me engaged to the point I got so lost in them that I spent the entire night reading them. In fact, I can still reread them today and still love them, but the other books that followed afterward were torture to read. I believe that after the third book 'Child of Prophecy' she should have ended the series, because it may not have been my favorite book of the series but she ended it nicely....Until I learned she'd somewhat restarted the series and the books aren't as well written as the first two. Which is a crime.

I was reading the Serpantwar Saga and in one of the books one of the characters was killed off... Whilst sitting on his horse by one of his own men... Who accidentally set off the arrow shooter thing and it tore through his chest and pulled him off his horse.... That was SO un called for.... I was devastated as he was one of my favourite characters..... Unbelievable... But I forgave Raymond E. Feist and continued reading his books.... :)

Not so much disappointed me as the fact that as I know the author so well after a few dozen books I find it is unreasonable to expect constant scintillation and breathless excitement. Its a bit like a relationship, I suppose. Once the glamour wears off you find ordinary moments more than, let's say, very 'interesting' ones...

Yes, often. I can't think of a single author who I love every book they've written.

Gordon Korman is one of my fave authors and when I first read his Swindle series, I was disappointed enough to cry. That set is so boring!

Oh yes indeed! She killed off one of my favorite characters in the series (The Meredith Gentry Series: A Shiver of Light). I didn't see it coming, and I certainly wasn't prepared for how it made me feel. I was devastated. I couldn't even re-read the book (which I always do). It really heart my heart...lol. Seriously! These characters are part of my alternate universe. I still love my favorite author (Laurell K. Hamilton) and will forever be hers but that last book really broke me down. Whew...I'm still dealing with the loss ;-) Any literary therapists out there?? :-)

Yes. John Grisham disappointed me in two books which were "The Painted House" and "Skipping Christmas". Neither book was a mystery and not very interesting.
