Re: Stephenie Meyer or JK Rowling

Post by 98jazzy98 »

I, like many people above me, would have to choose JK Rowling. I have read all of the Harry Potter and Twilight series, and I preferred the Harry Potter series.

With that being said, even though both authors wrote YA books, they had very different stories and themes.

Stephanie Meyer centered her books around the love between Bella x Jacob and Bella x Edward. If you look past the scope of the love triangle, there really isn't much to the books. The plot falls flat in many places, like in the second book New Moon. All I learned from that book was that life doesn't go on after you hot vampire boyfriend breaks up with you for mysterious reasons. Lame. Bella just isn't that strong female character that impressionable young girls look for (at least I didn't). After I finished the series in 7th grade, I only knew that I never wanted to be like Bella.

JK Rowling, however, had a much stronger basis for a plot. I will say that the last few books lost some of the magic for me, but they still held my interest. Harry Potter is a strong character, I think, and is a character that people can learn from. Every year Harry is attending Hogwarts, Voldemort is there, at some point, causing trouble. Despite this, Harry never gives up. Another point that I loved about the books was the reoccurring theme of prejudice. Like Hermione, many wizards who attend Hogwarts aren't full blooded, and are referred to, not so affectionately, as Mudblood's. The way that the full blooded wizards (*Ahem* Draco) look down their noses at Mudblood's is a lesson that can be learned through the book. It can be applied to real life circumstances, and even if children or young adults don't catch the lesson the first time, they may catch on later (like I did).

Overall, I finished the Harry Potter series patiently awaiting my own Hogwarts acceptance letter, while I finished Twilight with a particular aversion to sparkling vampires and self-involved werewolves.

I prefer jk rowling because her writings in the harry potter series were Astounding. She was so creative with every single detail of the book. The harry potter series is and i believe always will be a great classic. Jk rowling im my opinion just has something that i dont believe stephanie meyer will ever be able to acheive.

J.k Rowling is superior in every way. She has been successful in introducing the children of the world to Harry Potter and his world of magic, and in many ways, to the joy of reading.
I prefer her because her books are much more unique and enjoyable.
Stephanie Meyer has also had success and hence must have some talent but a glittery vampire story is dwarfed by the wonders, mysteries and fun found in Hogwarts!

JK Rowling, of course. They should't be compared. Meyer writes in very simple language, the dialogs is a total fail.

JK Rowling, her books are so much more interesting and have depth. Though I don't actually like the character of Harry Potter. Much too self-righteous and annoying, especially in the movie.

I have a greater respect for JK Rowling because she started at the bottom and made it to the top! She even created a whole different world and I haven't found one thing I don't like with any of her books. (I love Stephenie Meyer too)

I strongly prefer Rowling to Meyer. I really enjoyed reading Stephen King's interview blasting Meyer. He said something to the effect of (paraphrasing here) "Twilight really isn't about real vampires and werewolves. It's a silly love story." He also called it "tweenager porn" which gave me a good laugh. I am a horror purist. Vampires are terrifying monsters, lurking in the darkest of places and searching for only one thing--and that thing is not love, and they certainly do not *shudder* SPARKLE.

J. K. Rowling, I mean I enjoyed twilight but Harry Potter is always going to be one of the best series I've ever read.

Stephanie Meyer gets more flak than she probably deserves for the atrocious main character of the Twilight series. The side characters in those books, like Alice for example, are much better developed and more interesting. That said, still going to have to vote JK Rowling.

This feels like an unfair comparison as they aren't even in the same league. JK Rowling created a new world that people all over the world wish they'd been born into. Stephanie Meyer wrote some books about vampires. She has her own set of fans, of course, but really there's no competition.

I'm a JK Rowling gal. Both authors are fantastic writers, but I find the Harry Potter characters to be more "human" so to speak. Stephanie Meyers characters are always very angsty, no matter the situation. Her characters always seem to be somewhat disconnected.
