Re: Stephenie Meyer or JK Rowling
With that being said, even though both authors wrote YA books, they had very different stories and themes.
Stephanie Meyer centered her books around the love between Bella x Jacob and Bella x Edward. If you look past the scope of the love triangle, there really isn't much to the books. The plot falls flat in many places, like in the second book New Moon. All I learned from that book was that life doesn't go on after you hot vampire boyfriend breaks up with you for mysterious reasons. Lame. Bella just isn't that strong female character that impressionable young girls look for (at least I didn't). After I finished the series in 7th grade, I only knew that I never wanted to be like Bella.
JK Rowling, however, had a much stronger basis for a plot. I will say that the last few books lost some of the magic for me, but they still held my interest. Harry Potter is a strong character, I think, and is a character that people can learn from. Every year Harry is attending Hogwarts, Voldemort is there, at some point, causing trouble. Despite this, Harry never gives up. Another point that I loved about the books was the reoccurring theme of prejudice. Like Hermione, many wizards who attend Hogwarts aren't full blooded, and are referred to, not so affectionately, as Mudblood's. The way that the full blooded wizards (*Ahem* Draco) look down their noses at Mudblood's is a lesson that can be learned through the book. It can be applied to real life circumstances, and even if children or young adults don't catch the lesson the first time, they may catch on later (like I did).
Overall, I finished the Harry Potter series patiently awaiting my own Hogwarts acceptance letter, while I finished Twilight with a particular aversion to sparkling vampires and self-involved werewolves.

I prefer her because her books are much more unique and enjoyable.
Stephanie Meyer has also had success and hence must have some talent but a glittery vampire story is dwarfed by the wonders, mysteries and fun found in Hogwarts!
