I did have a beer with Hunter S. Thompson, shortly before he killed himself.
Alive or dead, right?
Joe R. Lansdale
Sol Yurick
Hubert Selby, Jr.
Jim Carroll
Jeffrey Eugenides
Jon Longhi
David Pinner
Bret Easton Ellis
Richard Brautigan

That's a lot of beer!

I'd have to say John Irving. I have a feeling there would be no intelligent conversation, just me staring in awe with some drool on my chin.

On the plus side, he may use you as a character in a future book

Oh but you could!
And then just say that there's another copy with you being ogled at.

Could have an interesting chin-wag regarding whales and spirituality stuff with Herman Melville, of course. ;)

Personally, this is my list. I'm not including Kristopher Young, though, since he's a mate of mine:

Raymond Chandler
Edith Wharton
James M. Cain
Graham Greene
Umberto Eco
Mary Shelley
Haruki Murakami
Dashiell Hammett
Joseph Heller
Ray Bradbury
Philip K. Dick
William Shakespeare
Charles Lutwidge Dodgson
Theodor Seuss Geisel
Robert E. Howard
Murasaki Shikibu
Johnston McCulley
Enid Blyton
Stan Lee

I think we'd have to have a party and invite all of them along, then throw 'em into the mix. Wunderbar!

I think it would be nice to have a drink with Haruki Murakami in some jazz bar.

(If you don't drink beer, which author would you most want to go to lunch with?)

Audrey Niffenegger! (Author of The Time Traveler's Wife and Her Fearful Symmetry)
Absolutely love her writing and she writes such interesting books, I think that she would be amazing to talk to and really good company!!

Definitly Stephen King..and I know this sounds weird but also Aleister Crowley. He was such a kooky person that I would love to sit and hear what he has to say. Plus I loved his book "Diary of a Drug Fiend". Satan worshippers intrique me for some strange reason.
