Douglas Adams, definitely. He died before his time, and I would really, really appreciate having a proper ending to the Hitchiker's Guide to the Galaxy, as well as new Doctor Who episodes penned by him!

Kurt Vonnegut Jr. Had tickets to his April lecture in Indy...then he passed away before the date and his son delivered the lecture.

Jane Austen! I would love to hear what she thinks of the new rules of courtship. Also, Shakespeare. I'd love to see what he would write about today's society.

I would bring back Kafka... and take him on a trip to parts of Eastern Europe. I believe he would find the way in which the world of the old stalinist regimes switched into a surreal chaotic (and absurdly tragicomic) world that is still settling decades after the changes. He may find it very inspirational at least for some great chats, even if he wouldn't put anything down on paper :)

John Fowles - one of the most brilliant authors ever and so frustratingly imaginative - I've read The Magus 5 times to date - 3 the old version and 2 the newer. Yup, still confused but wonderfully so! Oh and if I was cheating and could suggest a poet - Dylan Thomas - a sheer genius with the self control of a nymphomaniac at a Roman Orgy! Still, who could not love him for the magic of his musically mischievous words!

My favorite. And Dostoyevsky.
Arrgh. Gabriel Marquez died this year and I only read his book last month. I was so sad to find out he died this year. Kinda make me heart-broken for a bit.

Andre Norton and Diana Wynne Jones would be some of the ones I'd like to bring back. I love their books!
