I really loved (and still do) J.K. Rowling. I used to also enjoy Sarah Dessen and L.J. Smith. Not sure if I can say the same now because it's been so long since I've read their books. Jodi Picoult is another, and I still enjoy her books!

Well, since I was obsessed with Sweet Valley High when I was in high school, then I would say Francine Pascal, or rather Kate William, as Pascal was the creator of the series and William was the writer.

I loved Ellen Hopkins. She had such a unique way of setting up her books, it was fascinating reading them. Also her stories didn't always have happy endings or heroic characters. She wrote about things that people really struggle with.

J. R. R. Tolkien, probably, along with Lloyd Alexander, and I had just started falling in love with Victor Hugo.

George Elliot which is the pen name for Mary Ann Evans. She wrote under a man's name because women were not considered bright enough to write during the time period in which she lived. I read Silas Marner for my Lit class and was intrigued. Steve Martin made a pretty good modern day movie version of the book called A Simple Twist of Fate. If you like character driven novels, this is a must read.

Joseph Wambaugh was my favorite author in High School. I was and still am into true crime stories and how each author has their own perceptions.
