That's a hard one to answer. There were not as many series back then. I enjoyed Louisa May Alcott, but that might have been middle school. I'm pretty sure I read Gone With the Wind for the first time in high school so perhaps Margaret Mitchell.
Life without a good book is something MrsCatInTheHat cannot imagine.

High school is where I really developed my love for reading. It may be cliche but my favorite author then had to be Stephenie Meyer. She got me with Twilight and then drew me further in with The Host!

I started reading a Mary Higgins Clark book and I was hooked on mysteries!! I still love them and try to guess the ending. My favorite genre is Romantic Suspence and True Murder.

My favorite has to be Jeaniene Frost. She may have written books for the more adult audience than my high school self but regardless I read them.

I think this is such a fun idea to read through everyone's choices because of different age groups. My favorites in high school were R.L. Stine (the Fear Street books, not Goosebumps) and I also liked Christopher Pike a lot as well.

I was really into Anne Rice, primarily her vampire chronicles but also the Witching Hour series... I really devoured these books. Maybe it's time for a reread... :techie-reference:

I loved Jane Austen (still do) and Jodi Picoult. I also have to go with the old standby, J.K. Rowling. Something about the world of magic made me want to devour her books!

MY absolute favorite author in high school was Lurlene McDaniel. Her books were so heartfelt and I'm not sure I have ever read one that hasn't made me cry. They're really emotional reads.

I never was a huge fan of an author in high school, but I did get huge impressions from some books I have read.

One author in particular that would be considered a favorite is Ayn Rand. I think I read the book, Anthem. (I honestly do not remember if it was that title or The Fountainhead). I loved the way she wrote in the third person perspective. For example, a single individual would say something like "we believe it is right." To further that example, when a single individual refers to another individual, it would be something like, "they are looking at me." It was very interesting.

I had so many favorites but it was around that time I discovered Jane Austen and the Bronte sisters. They still remain among my favorites!

I loved — loved loved loved — Tim O'Brien. I think it's because The Things They Carried, which I read early in high school, was one of the first novels that I realized how much more you can get out of literature if you're willing to analyze it. Before reading TTTC, I thought a lot of my English teachers' analyses were way too "out there" and far fetched, but it finally clicked while reading O'Brien's novel that there's so much more to a story than what's explicitly on the page. I spent a good chunk of high school searching for that same level of subtext and never quite found it again until I started college.
