I don't know if I have and favorites, but J. R. R. Tolkien, Frank Herbert, and Mervyn Peake probably had the most influence on me as a writer.

I love J. K. Rowling, and I thinks her books written as Robert Galbraith were just as good.
I adore Dick Francis. My two passions in life are reading and horse riding, so to find an author who combines both so well is fantastic.
My third favourite varies, but I love Michael Crichton, Janet Evanovich, Maeve Binchy and many more.

Hi I'm new here. This is my first try at this so here we go. My three favorite authors are Stephen King, Anne Rice and Nora Roberts. Although I love reading anything I can.

1. Ilona Andrews for their urban fantasy that combines humor with a decent story
2. Mark Lawrence, if he keeps up writing the way he wrote the Broken Empire trilogy... the language is beyond amazing imho
3. Alexey Pehov, for the german version of Shadow Prowler feels like a game with language

This is one of those tricky questions to answer because the list is too short and there are just too many to name. I will base my answer on those that I don’t mind skipping work just so I can read their latest book (for now) :)

1) Fyodor Dostoyevsky - this now applies to new translations
2) Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie
3) Ken Follett

My top three favorite others are pretty commonly known writers. My favorite, who needs no introduction- J.K. Rowling. Pretty self explanatory. :) My second is Lemony Snicket, who wrote A Series of Unfortunate Events, because he's so unpredictable. Most books you can predict the ending- (i.e. the guy gets the girl, they all live happily ever after, etc.) but Lemony Snicket is just a rollercoaster of the unexpected and unconventional, and you never quite know what he'll come up with next. My third favorite is Virginia Lee Burton, who wrote the old children's book Mike Mulligan and His Steam Shovel. It's a kid's book, but a great book none the less.

I have many favourite authors, however, if I could only choose three authors they would be; Kelley Armstrong, Melissa Marr, and Lesley Livingston. These three authors are exceptional writers in my opinion and focus on YA supernatural/paranormal genre. They know how to grab the readers attention from the first page and will force you on a roller coaster ride of emotions. I highly recommend checking any of them out! :D
