Hands down, Dr. Suess. In many of his books, he brought many adult subjects to that of children, whether it being standing up against bullying or it being ok to be yourself.

So many it's hard to choose, Emily Rhodda, J.K. Rowling, Isobelle Carmody, Nick Bland, Pamela Allen, Rod Clement, I could go on forever. I love sharing stories with my children so it's easy to find new authors because kids become so quickly obsessed with their favourites.

I really enjoy all the Kate DiCamillo books. The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulaine is a spectacular read. I also like Julie Numeroff and C.S. Lewis.

There are so many good ones. I have to include Roald Dahl and C.S Lewis just because I loved their books as a child. I think Emily rodda (key to rondo and finders keepers series) and Jackie French (my mum is a pirate and the rest of the wacky family series) were also some of my favourites

If I had to choose one children's author, it would be Cynthia Rylant. Her Henry and Mudge Series is great reading for kids (and their parents :) ). In each book there is a life lesson, a peek into the loving relationship between a boy and his dog, and a trip down memory lane.

Hear, hear! to what others have written. No one has mentioned Laura Ingalls Wilder. I love her books. The charcoal illustrations are perfect as well.

Trina Schart Hyman is a wonderful illustrator. I have a copy of St. George and the Dragon illustrated by her. It is amazing. She also did the cover for Ronia the Robber's Daughter, and many others.

I can't remember the author, but there is a WONDERFUL book called The Rise and Fall of Ben Gizzard. It's a parable about fate, set in the American West. Illustrations on almost every page.

For older kids (preteen?) I loved the Indian in the Cupboard series.

I also like George MacDonald's fantasies as a kid.

Shel Silverstein! I still have some of his poems rattling around in my head somewhere, and who wouldn't appreciate "The Giving Tree"?

My all time favourite children's author is Enid Blyton. As I got a little older I also loved R. L. Stine and the Animorphs series. Morris Gleitzman and Paul Jennings were great for a laugh too.

Enid Blyton, have not seen her name in so long! Yes! Read that too as a kid. Newest favorite children's author I came across is Cornelia Funke

Undoubtedly Kenneth Grahame. I've rarely cried whilst reading as much as I did/do when I read Wind in the Willows, as a child or as an adult. Children's literature is all about leaving Eden, of course, and I find it rather painful to look over my shoulder in the way children's literature makes one do.

My child is really loving A Colorful Journey Through the Land of Talking Letters by Mary Jo Nyssen...really fun book that also helps kids learn letter sounds...I especially like that my daughter can listen to the audiobook in the car to keep her occupied on long drives. I am impressed with how much it has helped with her reading. It is her favorite book to read every night. When I was a kid, I loved The Farthest Away Mountain by Lynne Reid Banks. I remember my teacher would read a chapter at the end of each school day, and I couldn't wait for the day to be over so I could hear more about the young girl's adventures.
