When I was ten, my favorite series was Charlie Bone by Jenny Nimmo. I'd suggest that to any ten year old. Of probably even suggest it to anyone around my age too, actually.

I can't believe Fablehaven wasn't suggested more. This puzzles me. It is such an amazing series.
And there wasn't even a passing mention of The Neverending Story by Michael Ende.
So I second for Harry Potter.
Loudly second Fablehaven by Brandon Mull.
And submit The Neverending Story.

Geronimo Stilton is a great series for 10 year olds. My daughter is not quite 10 but she love anything by that series. Also she likes Ronald Dahl.

If he likes the comic book set up, try Middle School: Get Me Out of Here! by James Patterson. Some others are:
Series of unfortunate events by lemony Snicket
NERDS by Michael Buckley

From what I hear from the callers on his radio show, the parents enjoy the books as much as their kids do, many teachers are raving about the book too...

Didja know he has a 3rd one coming out?

I think he may like the hardy boys (By Franklin W. Dixon) or the book by Pseudonymous Bosch. They're always fun! :)

The How to Train Your Dragon series is perfect for that age. Totally different than the movie, and stupid boy humor.

The Wings of Fire series is also popular for that age.
