Rush Limbaugh and his Rush Revere historical series for children ( NYT best seller list )...

I heard a great testimonial on Limbaugh's Nat'l radio show...A 40 yr.old highly educated female M.D. admitted to reading and learning so much about American History from this " children's " book, simply because she hadn't payed attention in school...

I can relate, Same here!...I had the most BORING teachers, all they were interested in was " memorization " by rote...dates, places, etc, that had no significance to me..............as a result, " History " was always a very low grade for me!

That has been a really good series so far! Good option indeed! :D

I may read it myself, I'm ashamed to say that I have vast patches of ignorance re American History due to it not being " palatable " during my school days...

I've come to enjoy / appreciate history, no thanks to them...

Lloyd Alexander-The Chronicles of Prydain series. It includes The Book of Three and The Black Cauldron.
I starting reading these in elementary school and have read them so many times over the years, I have to keep replacing my copies.

Another good author is Sharon Creech. Many of her books are written from a young girls pov, but the lesson and the morals are very gender neutral.

This year, my son has loved the Rush Revere books by Rush Limbaugh, and will read anything by Brandon Mull (Five Kingdoms, Candyshop).

When I was younger I was a fan of a little bit older series, such as:

Charlie Bone mysteries
Red wall series
The Divide series
The Series of Unfortuante Events was phenomenal
The Hardy Boys
Nancy Drew
Goosebumps
The Inkheart series
Wishbone books

A lot of these are young adult...but read them to your children! My mother read to me everynight and I have to say my love for books hasn't dwindled yet.

There is this series called The 39 Clues. There is a huge collaboration so I'm not too sure who wrote witch book, but I think you should check it out. :)

Rick Riordan
Roald Dahl
Bruce Coville
John Flanagan
Cressida Cowell
All authors I, as an adult female, still read and love to this day. A love shared by my younger brother, which is nice.

I've heard of most of these names but this thread has listed some I never heard of. I've been getting a lot of recommendations lately. I now have WAY too many books that I have to look for and read! :reading-3:
"Piglet noticed that even though he had a very small heart, it could hold a rather large amount of gratitude." -A.A Milne
