What is your favorite Anita Blake book?

Post by audrey_clark »

I love Anita Blake. My favorite Anita book is Obsidian Butterfly! I like this book because it is before Anita takes almost all of the male leads as lovers. I have read them all and will continue to read them but most of the sex gets out of hand. Can not wait to talk to other fans!Audrey

I'm not really a follower of the Anita Blake series but happened to read Micah and enjoyed the relationship there. I do enjoy the Merry Gentry series greatly, though.

I only read the first three Anita Blake books, which I really enjoyed, but I heard it got a little bit crazy after that. To be fair, I read all the Merry Gentry books, and loved them even though they got pretty crazy as well.

Oh yay! A fellow Anita Blake fan :D I have read them all, however because it's been a while, none in particular stick out; but I do recall that I enjoyed the most recent one. I think though, that I overall like the whole series. I admit that the last few books have more sex than is necessary. I also wish we would see more of the vampires. I like seeing the other characters, but I just miss the vampires, and feel like we don't get to see them as much.

I think Obsidian Butterfly is my favorite Anita Blake book. The action is nom-stop and Edward, my favorite supporting character is awesome. The book has a good thriller plot also, which makes you want to keep reading. And there isn't a whole lot of needless sex. I have read the entire series and honestly, Obsidian Butterfly is the last good book, even though there are a dozen more and no end in sight. It embodies what I relish in the books including a plotline, which seems to be notoriously missing from later additions. The supporting cast is well developed and does make later appearances, perhaps because the reviews love the cast and the author took note. I used to love this series, the butt kicking female lead and all, but over time, have lost interest and appreciation. At this point, Anita and Edward should just go head to head and get it over with....and the series too!
Adventure...one part stupidty plus two parts perseverence....yeah, that's me!

I honestly thought that the first few books were the best, before there was so much needless sex. I ended up getting frustrated with the latter books as they all seemed so sex-focused.

I also thought that at the beginning the sexual tension between Anita and all of the men in her life added to the story. Once the tension was gone, because she'd slept with everyone, I felt that the stories just didn't hold as much appeal for me.

I would say my favorite book is a toss-up between Blue Moon and Obsidian Butterfly. I started reading Blue Moon in high school before I realized it was a book series. Blue moon opens her eyes to Richard's wolf side and makes the werewolves see her as more than just a small woman with a pretty face. Obsidian Butterfly was a book where she separated herself away from Jean-Claude and was able to do her own thing for a little while. But any book with Edward is automatically a yes for me lol

I loved this series I was really sad to see it degenerate to nothing but porn. As a young woman I was constantly searching for books with strong female protagonists, and this series fit the bill because Anita Blake was that and also very human in her flaws and insecurities. Obsidian Butterfly was actually my favorite. No idea why, but it was. I wish the porn had stayed in the Meredith Gentry books T.T (read those too). And saying that I guess I should say I'm not against the sex in the books, but this series had so much potential and the orgy sized amount of sex in them has ruined it for me personally.

I agree with the last two posts:
1-strong female character- This series started out with a butt kicking take no prisoners little (stature) woman, that IS what hooked me.
2- the series had so much potential and now its just orgy sex- which is why I just want the series to end!
Anita basically swallowing the mother of all darkness was so incredibly anti-climatic! And we waited how many books for that? The only showdown looming on the series horizon is Edward vs Anita and sadly, I hope Edward wins.
Talk about a series going on for far too long.

I completely agree!!! I loved the first few books they were so different from anything I've ever read and then suddenly there was just so much sex and I skipped to the last book and looked through it and there was this giant orgy and I was so disgusted I just stopped reading completely. Sex has its place in books but not like this.

So not that I mind the orgies but I agree the sudden jump into porn was very shocking. I miss the old characters and didn't like how they changed as the series went on.

My favorite is Circus of the Damned, I don't know why really except it was the first book that introduced me to Anita Blake. I haven't read any of her recent books, maybe there is one I haven't read that I will like, but with all the orgy stuff I've been hearing about, probably not.

I loved the first few books, she seemed like a really strong character and a necromancer was pretty unique to the fantasy world, especially in a "real world" setting. Then it takes a downworld spiral and it is so wrapped up in these ridiculous relationships, so much whining and hand holding. Seriously disappointing, they used to be so good.

I now will only read the books that involve Edward, those are the only books now that have an actual story.

I finally found the Anita Blake lovers of the world! Yay! I love Anita Blake, but I do have some issues with parts of the book. It has been a while since I read one though. I can't wait to see what happens next in the series. I have started reading the other series Hamilton writes, Merry Gentry the Sidhe princess. I will come back soon!
