A rather good C.D. of someone's interpretation of the Poe stories here, a bit dated but very listenable. It features Orson Welles on narration....

Don't know if this topic is redundant and you are still interested in similar writers to Edger Alla Poe.
or whether you have already heard of the writer I'm writing about it still might be interesting to know.

The writer Emily Dickinson had similar writing style as Edger Allan Poe.

Similarities were in the darker side of writing about sorry, terror and death.
They both wrote poetry.

Also there interest was similar. They both were born in Massachusetts,
Both had tragic losses in early lives and both dealt with them in self destructive ways.

Glad you found it interesting. I should have mention she was similar to Edger Allan Poe in her poems which where not publish till after her death.I don''t think she did shorts stories like Edger Allan Poe did.

I am, and always will be, a fan of people who know how to write well. My favorite novels almost read like poetry. Poe knew how to write well. His poetry captures you with the first line, and his short stories (and longer stories) keep you thinking, long after you have finished reading.

This is a little off topic but are you watching "The Following". It has a lot of references to Poe.

His writings are so dark.

Also, read his unfinished play "Politian". Wish he'd complete it!

I remember reading A Tell-Tale Heart and the Pit and the Pendulum as a child and have been fascinated by Poe ever since.

Poe was a class of his own. You can’t find any other poets or authors in the vicinity of his genius. He was original.
Television? No thanks. I have books to read and write in ‘The Library of Time’

One of the best writers of all time. After all these years, his works still captures souls and brings them to his dark and twisted world.
We thank you Edgar Allen Poe

I like how Poe very much reflected on himself in The Black Cat. If you enjoyed that, you should look into The Picture of Dorian Grey. Same sort of author projection.

I have never even heard of this author except for in a Beatles song. I should check him out.

Ibanezakame - definitely check out Poe - wonderful writer! At little macabre, but very talented. Like most "artists," he was probably suffering from some emotional/psychological demons and chose to deal with them on paper.

Yeah, I'd second that. Hawthorne's stuff is kind of like Poe in terms of mood and tone. I'd also say maybe a bit of Melville. How about modern authors? I don't think I've read a modern author with that Poe flare.
