Yes. One of my neighbors is a short story author, Kat Perry. I hate to say I haven't read her book yet.

I attended a keynote speech by Margaret Atwood at a teachers' convention a couple of years ago. I didn't meet her "in person" but I enjoyed her speech. I found it especially interesting because I took a course completely devoted to Margaret Atwood and Margaret Lawrence when I was in university.

I also went to a reading by Robert Munsch...it probably goes without saying that it was for children!

I met Nicholas Sparks a few years back at a book signing. I have talked to a BUNCH of authors in a virtual meet up, though, including RJ Palacio, AG Howard, Sarah Beth Durst, Sarah Porter, Richard Newsome and others.

I don't know if he qualifies as "famous," though he has had almost all of his books on the NYT besteller list, but I met N.D. Wilson, author of the 100 Cupboards trilogy, and ended up having dinner with him. That was a lot of fun. His agent was there too, and we had a great time. It was at a conference he was speaking at, and the people I was going with knew him, and so we just ended up chilling over dinner.

Actually my father worked with one, I had the same guy as a teacher and have his book signed by him. He's an awesome guy who proves that even people who live in a small town can strike it big and make their dreams come true. Mr. Luke Murphy author of Dead Man's Hand.

Meeting authors is my LIFE!
Authors I've photobombed:
*Richard Paul Evans
James Dashner
Brandon Mull
Tyler Whitesides
**Chad Morris

*My friend is his niece. She's scheming how to get me to actually meet him.
**That guy's my buddy now. We're friends.

Authors I've met:
Ann Hunter
Shanae Branham
Jennifer Jenkins
Cassie Mae
Michelle Argyle
Peggy Eddleman

And the list of authors that I've talked to (mostly online) goes on and on... Someday I'll be a published author, and I can't wait!

Don DeLillo, Claudia Rankine, Heidi Julavitz, Dorothy Allison, and Randall Kenan. My experience with Dorothy Allison was crazy; I've met her twice, once in high school and once in college. She's an incredible Southern writer who's done a lot with queer characters raised in environments not necessarily accepting of their lifestyles, and at the time I was so overcome by that that I pulled her aside after our luncheon to talk, and she ended up being the first person I ever came out to as lesbian. When I met her again six years later I reminded her of that and she told me she's had that same experience with hundreds of fans.

I have met Jodi Picoult. My friend and I went to a local Chapters bookstore and saw that she was doing a book signing that day. We didn't even know who she was, but decided to stay anyways. She did a book reading and signing.

I have also met some European Authors while travelling in Spain, Italy and Portugal. But those are not famous Authors.

Douglas Wilson, a Presbyterian theological / satirical writer. I had read a satire of his skewering a certain publishing house and became an instant fan. Then I got to go to a conference and met him there.

I met a not-so-famous children's book author this year at my library (it was a book signing sort of thing for kids). Now I can't even remember her name, which is a pity. She was very nice, though when she talked about writing she simplified most of what she said because she had such a young audience.
