Challenge Yourself

Post by mmandy38 »

Why is there not a reading challenge on here (I know there is a list saying the number of books that you would like to read)? One that will get you to read stuff you might not normally read.. For instance number one could be a book written fifty years before you were born.

This sounds like it would be really fun! It would be a great way to convince people to get out of their comfort zones and try new stuff. I, for instance, love fantasy and sci-fi, and had no idea until a while back that romance novels could be so good until my gal gave me a few to read, and until a couple major ones came out I never would have even considered nonfiction as any kind of interesting for anything other than learning. I'd definitely be all for a challenge!

I have my own reading challenge. I am a voracious reader and enjoy nonfiction and fiction. I just finished reading and writing another mystery novel review. And I'm busy on my own writing.

But I understand that some people need a jump start to get into more reading.

Yeah I saw this one on Pinterest and it seemed really fun! It requested you read books of different genres, eras, totally randomness and luck, recommendation, books turned movies, etc.

I think that set and structured reading challenges are fine if those folks need themselves pushed into new ventures. Myself, I've got so many new projects in my own writing that I scarcely have time to read other people's writing. I'm reading mystery novels for reviewing and that's about it right now.

But Scott's list is a good one for those who may find themselves stuck bottom dead center.

How shall we implement this?

Should we just make a topic in the forums so participating members can self-monitor their progress?

Would we want to configure an additional page/section of the site just for this reading challenge?

Half English, half Japanese.. but I have to read it anyways, so it's not much of a challenge, is it? :?
