Profile - Book Currently Reading

Post by bookowlie »

I have noticed something in the past few months. The "currently reading" book that gets listed on my profile doesn't change until I update my Bookshelves with another book I am reading. Even if I stop reading the book and change it to "Already Read" or "Not Interested" (let's say I gave up after 50 pages), it still shows up under my avatar as "Currently Reading". I don't like to add my review books to the Currently Reading Bookshelf because it seems weird to let an author know I am reading their book before it's been reviewed. Also, since the system automatically uploads the review books once you have submitted the review, there would constantly be duplicates of the books on my Bookshelves.

Here's a few examples: I started reading Devil in the White City a few weeks ago. I didn't finish it, so I switched it from the Currently Reading shelf to the Not Interested shelf. However, it stayed on my avatar/profile as my Currently Reading book for several weeks after it was put into the Not Interested shelf. Another example: I read another book The Pearl That Broke Its Shell a few months ago. After I finished it, I moved the book to the Already Read shelf. It still stayed on the profile under my posts as my Currently Reading book for many weeks. Keep in mind that it's common that I, and I'm sure many other members, read books quickly so the particular book is finished by the time we think of adding it to Bookshelves; then the book already needs to be categorized as Already Read.

Whew, that was a mouthful. Basically, a book that is no longer in the Currently Reading Bookshelf still remains on the member's profile that way on their posts.

Hi, bookowlie. I know this is rather a pain in the rear for those who like the information to be up to date and I also think it would be nice to have the option to reset the field (therefore leaving it blank) for those rare moments when we're not reading. I'll mention it to the other mods and see whether anything can be done to improve it :)

Ryan, It's not a big deal. The main reason I mentioned it was that it seemed weird to have a book showing up for so long that I gave up on weeks ago. Anyway, I should be more diligent about adding the ones I start before I finish them. :)

No, it's a valid point. It annoys me too. And I'm sure it annoys others :)

:) What's more annoying is when I stop reading a book because I don't like it. :)
