Directing to a poll is annoying

So that we can provide faster and better support, this forum (the "Public Suggestion Box") has been retired. Instead, please send any suggestions you have to us using the official website contact form.

This allows us to streamline our support system so that we can get to your message much faster. Two point strike me:
1. Without the redirect many members don't see the poll as it's (obviously) at the beginning of the topic. I have on occasion posted my comments on BOTM & overlooked going to the poll and sumbitting my vote.
2. I got the redirect for Holding Fire but as I haven't finished reading it yet (for me short stories are dip in and out reads) so I just clicked out of it with no difficulty. Nobody is forced to vote - if it doesn't interest you just click out of it & continue.
Personally, I think the redirect is useful provided it isn't overused.

Somehow you've managed to put bookowlie's words in my mouth.

Which, now that I've written it, sounds a little off color.

Well said.

This only happened to me once, and I thought it was just a glitch in the system so I just went back to the previous page without paying attention. Seems kind of like a good idea to me. I didn't even know there was a poll going on!

I got over my fear of striking a match in tenth grade by my discovery of wooden matches. I was master of the bunsen burner! After that, it was all my poor teacher could do to keep me from blowing up the school with my mixtures.

Wait. What were we talking about?

Right, right. I just need to redirect myself to the topic of redirects.

I absolutely hated lighting those bunsen burners in junior high. The best invention ever has been those long fire starter "thingy's" that you buy in the store. I'm sure someone knows the official name of those things.

Guys,
Enough about the bunsen burner ... back on topic or back of the class :hand:

Ha ha ha...back on topic....

I think the poll redirects are a good reminder for people who don't realize there is a poll or forgot to vote. As for the people who didn't read the particular book or didn't finish it, don't vote. Easy enough. The poll redirect is a second out of your life, one way or the other. Just my opinion.

I still regard the unwished for unwanted for redirect as a nuisance.

I suppose that my initial reaction to finding myself redirected to a poll in which I have ZERO interest in and do not want to participate in would likely be to rate the book the lowest possible marking, just to indicate my annoyance at the interruption. It's like the "God Squad" showing up at your front door uninvited, and provokes a negative reaction.

If I CHOOSE to participate in a poll or rating of a book, keen. Otherwise, I can only react with frustration and a reaction accordingly.

I'd say the benefits of having this site far outweigh the slight inconvenience of an occasional poll redirect.

Sometimes the off-topic remarks are more interesting/entertaining than the on-topic remarks.

Oh, I'm off topic, aren't I! :shifty:

Ummm...polls and stuff.
