Etiquette Question - Thank Reviewer and Offer Next Book?

Post by CJBrightley »

I'm new and just want to check before I do something I'm not supposed to.

I received a great book review from one of the official reviewers. I'm thrilled! However, the review isn't showing up on Amazon, Goodreads, or other sites. I would really appreciate it if the reviewer could cross post the review to Amazon and/or another site. Is it acceptable to contact the reviewer privately to ask them to do that?

I'd also like to offer the reviewer a copy of the next book in the series. If she reviews it as well, that would be fantastic, but if not, that's fine too.

Is it acceptable to thank the reviewer for the review under the review thread itself, or should I PM her, or should I just not contact her at all? I wouldn't mention it if it wasn't positive, but since it's such a nice review I hope it's ok to say thanks.

You can definitely post a comment under the review thanking the reviewer. We love when that happens.
However, we reviewers aren't allowed to post our reviews to other sites. The reviews on OBC are exclusive to this site. However, if your reviewer wanted, he/she could write a new review for another site. Otherwise, you'd have to get special permission from Scott. As for offering the next book, I don't know about that. I'll leave that to the masters (moderators). 8)

As ALynnPowers said, comments are always welcome and you certainly can comment under the review thread itself.

Reviews on OBC are exclusive to this site and can't be posted elsewhere. You can ask Scott to put a link to it on Amazon or the reviewer can post a new review for you.

About the next book, you can ask for a specific reviewer, but it should go through Scott. I suggest you pm Scott about that as well. 8)

Another etiquette question:
Is it inappropriate for me to answer questions in the support section? 8)
I just want to help. :)

I would love if an author offered their next book to me after i written a review for them. Of course, as long as it is allowed.

The way for an author or publisher to request the same reviewer read the next review in a series is for them to contact me. You can scroll to the bottom of the site on any page to find the contact link.

Same! I'm loving the book I'm reading now (I wasn't so lucky with my first couple but this one is awesome so far), and it's the first in a trilogy. If the author doesn't put the next ones up for review, I may just have to buy them... 8)

That said, I'm pretty sure C J Brightley's book was one that interested me. I remember reading that review and thinking it looked like a good read. That reviewer is lucky.

I'm about to crawl on my hands and knees to beg an author to request me for their next review. My current book is so good.

I thought about this being another thread! Could a reviewer ask the author if they can review their next book. Likely not, but ive read some excellent short novels here recently and not getting first crack at their next work stinks....Im trying to read and write my review swiftly enough to see whats new to review just in case :)

Okay, I can imagine some functionality for this. If a book is part of a series, I would like to make it so the reviewer can--with a few clicks of the mouse--have the author notified that the reviewer would like to review the next book in the series. I will also add some functionality that will allow the author to submit a book review request that will automatically first be offered to the reviewer who did their other book. I will add this to my to-do list.

I like that idea. I didn't realize that it was possible for an author to request a certain reviewer (or vice versa). That would be a helpful feature.

Thank you for requesting me, CJ!
