Does anyone have a kindle?

So Kindle doesn't have backlighting? I thought it did., You can't read it in the dark?

Does Nook? Of Sony and Nook, which is better? What about an Ipad?

I really want to buy an ereader for this summer and am just beginning the research.

I don't understand this obsession with backlighting ... I mean you can't read a conventional book in the dark can you?
I love the fact that I can read for hours using my Kindle & it doesn't seem to bother my eyes at all ... whereas reading a conventional book for the same length of time my eyes would be like two red coals.
If I want to read in the dark I just turn on the light. :lol:

The Kindle and Original Nook do not have back lighting, and it is easier on your eyes, somewhat.

The Nookcolor has back lighting and can be read in the dark, but is harder to view while outside in direct, full sunlight (like a cell phone)

If you want to over pay for something to just read ebooks, then the ipad is the way to go.

I personally have the nook and nookcolor, but only use the nookcolor since I've upgraded because I love it, and my daughter loves to read her children's books on it (and play angry birds)

I read my Kindle in the dark just like I read my books in the dark. I reach over with my right arm and very slowly turn on the lamp.

Ipad, color Nook, my laptop are all LCD/LED screens which means I can read them, for awhile, without turning on my lamp but if I want to read them outside, I'm out of luck. Actually, if I want to read them inside with bright sun coming in through the open balcony doors, I'm out of luck.

For me, the Kindle is great because for a variety of reasons I've chosen to live in Oaxaca, Mexico. Now, for the first time in 13 years I can read what I want and not simply what I can find.

Thank God someone else reads in the dark as I do .... I was beginning to think I'd been in a time warp & was somewhere in the future where humans had no need of artificial light sources. The relief of knowing I'm not alone in still having the inconvenience of electric light. :lol:

I just found out something today. I have a little digital video camera that I bought about 3 years ago and I read the directions as far as to find out how to take pictures with it and that was it. thats all I ever used it for and nothing else. I knew it had other functions on it but I wasnt interested in anything but taking pictures. Yesterday I was taking some pictures in the area to send to a friend and I noticed the camera had a ebook function on it. I came home and dug out the dust-covered directions and found out I could download ebooks from the computer onto the camera. Now I can sit in my recliner and read off of my camera. Its about the size of a pack of cigarettes and much easier to read than off of my laptop. I guess it pays to read directions.

I, too, am on the fence about getting a Kindle or other e-reader. Besides the smell and feel of real books, I also like to write in them. I am definitely an active reader - writing in the margins, underlining, making predictions or observations, finding literary devices (dorky, I know)... can you make annotations like that with any of the e-readers?

I do always carry a book (or two) around with me, and getting a Kindle would definitely be less bulky in my purse.

I make notes and highlight on my nookcolor all of the time. It helps with book reviews and for re-reading in the future.

I don't have a Kindle yet but plan to purchase one soon. I love the fact that it is very light and can fit into a purse easier than a real book. It will most likely replace all real books for me.

Is there a limit to how many ebooks you can store on your ereader? I would hate to not be able to go back to something once I've bought it and read it. And do you have some kind of "library" where you can see what books you have? It makes me happy to look at the books on my shelves. They are like portals to many worlds just sitting there waiting for me to enter, and I like knowing I can do so at any time. The ereader doesn't take that away from you, does it?

Hi Evapohler, the Kindle 3G product description says it can hold up to 3,500 books, which is a lot to me. Once I purchase mine I don't plan to delete any books that I download (unless I didn't like the book), I will just purchase a new Kindle once it's maxed out. Instead of having shelves of books I will have Kindles of books, in my opinion a lot easier to deal with. Hope this helps!

I put all my ebooks on a flash drive stick, Ive got about 8000 of them. Instead of renting a warehouse for that many books I can now put them in a coffee cup. Technology is amazing.

Does anyone have a kindle?
