Does anyone have a kindle?

I couldn't do it. I love the smell of a book. I'm always flipping the pages over and over smelling them. Old books, new books. Maybe I'm just weird!

I have a Kindle Fire and I LOVE it. But I also have a full bookshelf that is as tall as my ceiling and almost as long as my dining room wall. I don't have it in me to get rid of my books or stop buying new books but there are advantages to my Fire, for instance there are tons of free books and magazines and its a handheld computer. You cant beat it really.

I've had my Kindle Fire for almost three months and I love it. Don't get me wrong, I still love my stacks and stacks of hardcovers and paperbacks, but the Kindle is great for traveling and has never let me down!

I totally love my kindle. Especially

- going on holidays (much lighter than a couple of books and you don't have to decide what you're in the mood to read during your trip before you actually go on your trip)
- for reading in bed (especially when you got a book with many pages that makes your fingers ache from stretching the book open for a longer period of time)
- and if, like me, you're home isn't that big and you don't know where to put your books any more

I also still have a lot of books and I won't get rid of them unless absolutely necessary. Also, there are still some books you don't get as ebooks - although, I'm sure that will change soon. Plus, one of my favourite book-series has a lot of illustration by the author that I don't think would work on kindle.

And I have to say, I work a lot with books too, and I just cannot imagine doing it on an electronic device. When working with a book I need my pencil-written notes in the margin and my post-it-sheets on the pages.

I just got a new kindle touch, but now everythings going to the new Kindle fire. But I love mine anyway.

I bought my Kindle 3 last year and has been a great experience. Mainly because it has help me to improve my learning in english. Has been sensational reading books in foreign language, having a dictionary in the distance of a finger.

I have a kindle, and I was avidly against it. I told my husband repeatedly I would not participate in a downfall of an industry. He bought me one anyways and I was won over. (So much for my principals) It is great when going on vacation, also for waiting in a doctors office. Also I love the free books, and I am slowly getting rid of my massive library. I still read real books. I still go to library, and buy books. Nothing replaces the smell and feel of books in my mind. However there are five us in a small place and I have two book cases filled; three shelves in my closets filled and stacks on my night stand plus about twenty boxes in storage. The Kindle has stopped many arguments in my marriage. For every book I keep I have to get rid of two, but I get to put it on my Kindle, and bless someone else with it.

Good as Kindle is..how can you dispose of your hard copy books. I cannot much to the disgust of my good lady

I was an original Kindle DX owner. Mine's white if you can believe it! Almost all the new ones are charcoal. In any event, I have loved my kindle from the first book I read on it (The Bishop's man by Linden MacIntyre).

Huge positive for me is the abilty to keep a light-weight kindle in your purse. I take mine everywhere. I mean it. Also, it fits perfectly on cardio machine book ledges at the gym and you dont have to hold pages back or wrestle with them. Early on, I should have bought stock in kindle, because I must have single-handedly sold about 50 from just talking it up when people asked. Incidentally, Kindles do not freeze if you leave them in your car overnight when it's -40 deg cel either. They are not like iphones or other gadgets like them. Which makes a kindle great for 8 solid hours of ice fishing because you drug your husband to Part 1 of Breaking Dawn and he says you owe him.

I still read books in paper but only because some of them aren't out on Kindle yet, or I feel they're over-priced for a digital edition (11/22/63 was $25.50 kindle price---outrageous!!). Also, people tend to lend paper books and not give you their kindle for the weekend!

I use to not and my many favorites I keep. It was a comprise pure and simple. I get to put the ones I am getting rid of on the kindle. I just look at it like I really enjoyed this book and by giving it to a used bookstore or a thrift shop, someone else will get to read it and enjoy as much as I have.

I agree 20 dollars for the Casual Vacancy by JK Rowling I thought that was outrageous as well

You know what else was ridiculously over-priced for a kindle edition? Fall of Giants by Ken Follett. It was over $25 which created a hurricane of Hatred on Amazon's commentary---which was somewhat unfair since it drastically skewed the rating of the book. C'est la vie?

I think it is said when being upset about the price lowers the rating of a book. It just based on whether or not you like the content, but that is just my opinion.

While I've often been annoyed at the price of books I don't think the price has ever influenced my rating of the book. It would certainly influence where I buy the book or not though
