My kindle has a weird question mark where the battery icon

Hi,

I have a kindle fire that was purchased back in 2012. For some reason every so often there is a question mark icon where the battery icon in the upper right corner of the device should be. If I unplug the kindle from the charger it dies within 20-30 seconds and won't come back on for a week. Even after a week charging the question mark icon will still show up and I'll have to keep the thing plugged in to read on it. After a few more days I try again to unplug the kindle without it dying and sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. Has anyone else ever heard of this? I looked online for information but it was fairly fruitless and I'm not sure what I can do. Please help!

I spoke to technical support and they were not super knowledgable about the issue either. I think if it happens more consistently I'll see what they can do for me but it just happens randomly :/

Evidently your kindle has its own questions about the stability of the battery.
