I have both the Kindle FIre and the Kindle App on my computer. Why is it when I get an ebook, it wont always dowload to my computer and takes a little while to download onto my actual kindle?

It sounds like a problem with your kindle syncing to your account. That could be because of your wifi, but it could also be a software issue with the kindle. Have you tried using it somewhere else on a different wifi connection? A friend's house or Starbucks?

I love the Kindle app on my iPad and use it exclusively for reading. It's so easy to go to Amazon and buy a book and have it immediately show up on my Kindle app so I can start reading. I used to have a Kindle but as soon as I got my iPad that's all I've used. I even download books from my local library.
