I prefer to feel the book as I read and have stayed far away from Kindles. I hate to think of print being dead, but it seems the Kindle is just the latest nail in the coffin.

I agree actually, that was why I was so against them at first. Nothing can replace the feel or smell of a book

I find that the best part of owning a Kindle is the large number of free books that can be downloaded through Amazon. Not only can you download new novels but also classics such as Treasure Island and The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes. I currently have over 100 eBooks from mysteries and classics to cook books and sci-fy.

I use the Kindle app on my iPad, and my biggest complaint is how the page numbers are displayed. It's not comparable to a hard copy. Plus, I usually like to book mark at the end of a chapter so I don't have to guess where I was in the middle of the chapter, however if I'm crunched for time, I don't know how large the next chapter might be, so it makes timing difficult.

I know what you mean, I have a Kindle & one of the things I miss is judging the physical size of a chapter or indeed the book. If, for example, I'm in bed reading & I know I have to get up for work in a few hours, with a regular book I page to the end of a chapter & decide if I can commit to that reading time but with the Kindle I only have the % read to go by and if I commit to reading a further 10% say it can leave me in the middle of a chapter ... and one can't possibly go to sleep in the middle of a chapter!

I have a Kindle and I love it, but sometimes I still like going to the library to check out an actual book. Rarely do I ever buy books any more, unless I really love them. :)

I have a kindle fire, which I like and have had a number of earlier kindles. I am enjoying also reading magazines via the kindle. And so nice not to have all the clutter of magazines laying around, plus know right magazine is when want to look for article, receipe etc. :D

I love my Kindle Fire. Not only do I love reading on it but the availability of apps for myself and my child is great. It keeps both busy. The only thing I miss is the time I used to spend in the book store, but with two little boys the convenience of shopping at home and having my books immediately couldn't be better.

I have a Kindle Touch, it was a gift. I was a little unsure at first, I liked the idea of ease and number of books all in one place, but I still love reading real books. I love going to the library and getting a lot of books that I might not want to buy. I thought that I could not get e-books from the library on my Kindle, but later found out I could. I use it mainly for free e-books, for review or just for fun, but still read a lot of real books as well.

I would recommend researching the best e-reader for you.

In typical fashion, I am a little late to the technology game. (Growing up, we were the last house to have purchased a microwave oven, too.) Nevertheless, here I find myself with the latest version of the Kindle Fire HD.

So far, so good. Our local library works with Kindles and at some point I'll sign up for that program. I have a funny feeling the device will end up paying for itself since there will be no more late fees. For good or bad, the library will just "snatch" the copy back from your device when the book is due. The downside is that there never seems to be enough licenses for ereader copies so wait lists are just way too long.

Purchasing books is extremely easy. I do worry, however, that independent book stores will fall by the wayside. I don't like giving just Amazon (or for Nook readers, just Barnes and Noble) all my business. I fear these ereaders have turned independent bookstores upside down. I don't feel as bad for publishers because (despite their claims to the contrary) this just has to cut their costs by half. Wonder when there will be equilibrium in the pricing?

I have been thinking about buying an e-reader.
Reading off of my computer screen strains my eyes. Can anyone suggest an e-reader that is useful for the antiquated reader?
I think I will miss the smell and feel of the pages the most.

I could not live without my Kindle. I received my first one as a graduation present from college several years ago when they first came out and I have been attached to it ever since. I am now on my second Kindle (the first one met an untimely end under the wheel of a chair) and I couldn't be happier. I have the regular old version, not a Kindle Fire or Paperwhite and I have no complaints. I didn't want a fancy tablet like the Kindle Fire, but I can see the usefulness of it. There are several main reasons why I love my Kindle:
1. It is very portable, slim, and easy to carry. I have a long commute to work and it has saved my life everyday on the train.
2. People cannot see what you are reading. I like the freedom to read what ever I want without people seeing the types of things I like.
3. It syncs with EVERYTHING. I can read it with the Kindle Cloud on my laptop while at work. If I forget my Kindle at home, I can pull out my Iphone (or any smartphone) and it syncs to the last page I read.
4. I can download all the free books I want with one click! You can download not free books with one click too!
5. The text size is adjustable. For me this doesn't matter, but for my 90 year old Grandmother who cannot see very well but enjoys reading, its been a life saver for her.

If you are considering an e-reader, definitely go for a Kindle. My recommendation would be to get a 3G Paperwhite. The paperwhite has a lit up screen so you can read it in the dark, and the 3G lets you sync from anywhere. (The wireless only you have to be connected to wireless to sync)

Hope this helps!

I LOVE my Kindle. I was reluctant about getting one (I, too, love the feel of a book in my hand), but I find that I read more now that I have one. It's so convenient to download a book from the library website, especially in these cold winters, rather than trek to the library, which happens to close early this time of year. It's also cut down on the clutter in my home. While I hold on to the books that I love, my trips to the thrift store for second-hand books are no more!

I have had my kindle for several years now and I always have a hard time downloading my books. I need my son in law to do it for me. I actually prefer to buy the paperbacks instead. Its to much trouble for me.
