I've noticed that as well and I think publishers will put out e-books that aren't as heavily edited because its cheaper than paying someone to type of the book into digital form and then pay another person to go through and check for mistakes. Especially since the profit from e-books is not as large as from paper books.

Yes. I wonder if they proof them . Some books have missing or misspelled words.

Sometimes I'm not sure if the ebook version is the problem or if I'm reading something poorly edited.

I've noticed this (as well as minor grammatical errors) in e-books that I know were around well before the invention of e-readers. Whoever is responsible for converting these books to e-format is not being very careful!

It's very frustrating, especially after I spent $15 on a book at Barnes and nobles and there's grammatical errors.

This! And sometimes I's and L's becomes 1s for books on my old e-reader but that may be because of unrelated reasons :eusa-think:

I think with the advent of being able to publish your own eBook, many new writers either don't have the money for an editor (professional or otherwise) or they just don't know where to find an editor. There are also a lot of people online offering editing services, for a fee, who may not necessarily be qualified to edit a book. After reading what you've written a million times over, all the words start to look alike anyway. If I ever published my own book I'd certainly have at least one other person look for glaringly obvious mistakes, but I don't think I've ever read a book that was perfectly edited. There are just too many words and grammatical rules involved. I understand the annoyance, but as someone already said, if the content is good you grumble through and fix it in your head.

If I convert books myself from one format to another most times I notice missing words. That happens so very rarely though. The spacing really messes with my head, though. Especially if I use the "send to kindle" feature. I don't know what happens during the formatting process, but there are words squished together on every other page.

Not just missing words but the wrong word. Like they have recorded it and the speech to text did not understand the correct word. Can be confusing and frustrating at times. Misspellings too drive me crazy!

I too have noticed formatting, spelling errors and missing words when reading using an e-reader. But being able to take all my books with me at one time helps me get over it. I guess it is a trade off for the convenience.

Yes, I have noticed that. I have also noticed that some words are somehow converted to symbols. I'm not sure why.

Those are mistakes in editing and proofreading, also by the people who make the eBook, that is not the fault of the writer
