For me, finding a good free book is a matter of timing. There are a lot of websites that list the free books (changes daily) and you just have to snag them when they're available! I haven't read any of the current free books yet so I can't give recommendations past the always free Classics.

There are a large number of free Ebooks out there. Besides Amazon you can also go to iBooks and type in free books in the search to get a long list. Another excellent source is tuebl. If you go to that site you can search authors of your choice and I believe genres as well. Finally you can sign up for Bookgorilla which is a daily newsletter that sends desks on books and some are freed you can set your preferences with them. The deals change almost daily.

Indie authors who self publish on Amazon are allowed 5 days of free book giveaways per 90 days, if they choose to use them, so basically, you just have to luck out with your timing or follow your favorite authors to see when they are having their free sales.

Only if the author is exclusive to Amazon (and many of us are not) and only if they choose to go free.

Lots of authors don't go free and that's okay. The pricing is usually decent. You can also join lendleme and try to borrow the books you want. They have a good selection some of the time.
Maria saw her first dragon while gardening. The gnome tried to take pictures, but dragons are very fast. The fairy finally snapped a shot, but the dragon came by and flamed it to ashes! No one wants to get burned so, sadly, there will not be pictures!

Check author sites as well. Many have free stories. I know I do and I host some free stories from other authors too (they are all short stories--not full novels, but they are free.)

Sometimes I stalk indie authors and they give away free copies of their books through goodreads or twitter.

The classics of course are all free if you're interested; there are lots of historical fiction as well as romance with the classics.

Can't think of any off the top of my head, but I like to go to bookbub. They have a lot of free ebooks every day for ibboks and kindle. You can also break it down by genre.

I subscribe to BookBub. I have to admit that they have a pretty good selection of books many of which are free. I have not been disappointed in any of the books that I have read from there and i have even found some pretty good new authors from this selection as well.

My favorite genre is ya paranormal romance, and one book that I recommend would be Sora's Quest by TL Shreffler. Enjoy!

Most of the free e-books I've gotten were free for the day on Amazon. I am sure they are no longer free.

I use this site too! Not every free book is great but it's nice to see what's out there and sometimes you get some good ones you may not have ever found
