Disabilities may often seem to engulf our lives and a disease like MS or multiple sclerosis with its wide range of symptoms and signs including both mental and physical ones tends to overcome life itself. This author herself a victim of this tragic disease , which often leaves the patient wheelchair-bound, encourages all MS patients to not let it rule their lives. She believes that in spite of having MS she can have her best life and so can others.

Richard has also included stories of various people who have MS and who fight it not letting it become who they are. The author strongly opines that just because someone has MS doesn’t mean his or her life has to be about MS only. She has advised that a person’s body is like a pet and they have to take care of it. But this doesn’t mean that their lives are about their bodies only. Life is about so much more.

I have particularly liked that she has outlined a number of steps in order for a person to ‘live his best life’ and more importantly these steps can be applied to victims of various disabilities and not just MS. Her idea of using positivity, yoga, humour, etc to overcome this disease and thinking of all this as a game plan will no doubt encourage those who believe that MS means the end of their lives. Lisa, one of the various people whose stories Richards has incorporated in her book has commented that her MS is like a dragon and she has to learn to ride it, which is rather inspiring. All the stories are in fact touching, although Richard’s narration seems a bit mechanical at times.

What makes Richard’s book even more inspiring is the fact that this isn’t just a self help book on ‘What to do if you have MS’. It actually provides support to all those who believe their lives have halted because of this disease. Her book will help the MS patients as well their family members to carry on. She has also tried to bring forth the bright side of MS although she doesn’t ask of her MS affected readers to like MS. She has just tried to show them that having MS doesn’t mean that their lives are over, they can still work and jog and travel. MS will limit them but won’t stop them.

Overall I will rate this book three out of four stars. It could have been four stars but I have found a few grammatical errors. However I recommend this book to all MS victims. Read it and you will be inspired.
