All this new technology keeps changing the world, but I can't see any substantial improvement.

This sounds like an excellent non-fiction book to read. Man, it's been a while since I've read one. I always like the interesting new stuff I learn from them. The knowledge I obtain from non-fiction books such as these help my fiction writing a lot since it helps me write stuff confidently without the need to having to look it up later.
