I love all things Jane Austen!
But my other favourite Classics are:

North and South - Elizabeth Gaskell
(I also recommend watching the movie after!)

David Copperfield - Charles Dickens

Sherlock Holmes short stories and other novels by - Arthur Conan O'Doyle

The Scarlet Pimpernel - Emma Orczy

Little Women - Louisa May Alcott

I think everyone else has mentioned most of the other ones I would recommend.

Fahrenheit 451. Truly one of the greatest dystopian sci-fi- books to grace our shelves. It is well loved, and shall be read many times over.

my favorite classic books are Jane Eyre, To Kill a Mocking Bird, and Pride and Prejudice. These are good to read on a rainy day. Jane Eyre makes me realize how someone could be a lot worse of then you. Oh I forgot about Withering Heights if you love a good romance book this is the one for you.

My favorite would have to be Pride and Prejudice. It amazes me how relatable and timeless the book is, despite being written over 200 years ago. I love how Jane Austen lets us discover the multiple layers of each character. The romance is beautiful and perfectly imperfect. It is not one of those fluffy, sugar-coated love stories, but one that has to overcome some major obstacles. I also really enjoyed Austen's beautiful writing, which allowed me to travel in time to the 1800s. Not only is Pride and Prejudice my favorite classic, it is my favorite book in general!

Can anyone recommend good classics for teenagers? I'm 16, and english isn't really my first language so it's a little hard for me to read books with deep english words in them. :(

Lady Chatterleys Lover is DH Lawrence at his finest. Would perhaps give Sons and Lovers a miss though.

I think that one of Hemingway's best novella's is "Islands in the Stream," from Bimini to a Cuban bar in Havana the characters are vibrant and rich! A semi famous painter Thomas Hudson to a colorful old prostitute are in a cast of different, yet sad and funny group. This book was published after Hemmingway's death, but sums the author up nicely I think.

One of my classic favorites is the Moonstone by Wilkie Collins. It has that beautiful feel of a 19th century novel in its characterizations and dialogue, but it has a mystery that rivals some of the best thrillers being published today. I didn't expect to be surprised by this book, but definitely did not see some twists coming! A very engaging story and gorgeous prose makes for a classic that everyone should read!

The Portrait of a Lady. I could not believe how much I liked it. Drama! A little slow to get into, but I was blown away!
