Patricia Cornwell for her accuracy and attention to detail. She has a background in forensics and it shows. Her non-fiction book following the theory that the artist Walter Sickert was Jack the Ripper, if not convincing, is at least a fascinating book to read.

I would suggest my personal favourite .. Gabriel Allon series by Daniel Silva.

Martha Grimes is an excellent writer and the characters in the Chief Inspector Jury series are quite entertaining especially Melrose Plant's aunt Agatha.

I have read all of Elizabeth George's novels and the only one I didn't care for was "What Came Before He Shot Her". I like the Barbara Havers character the best.

I'm not sure if you would really call his a crime novel, but I just finised Moriarty by Anthony Harowitz and it is fabulous. It is set in after the 'deaths' of both Holmes and Moriarty, a new criminal group is running London and an American private detective joins forces with a detective from Scotland Yard to put an end to him.
So many books to read, so little time..
