Review: The Dead House by Dawn Kurtagich

Post by Dramasylum »

In the weaving of this tale, the author relies on the reader's ability to construct and deconstruct the central mystery. She uses description of media footage, interviews, diary entries, etc to provide clues. The writing of the tale is unique, but I almost felt I had to work too hard to get to the meaning, piecing the puzzle together.

Hi! The book's premise is that a house has burned down, but a diary remained. As you read excerpts from the diary, the story slowly unfolds through the use of multiple perspectives. The narrator claims to be a twin; both twins add to the story. Additionally, the author includes police reports, photographs, and an interesting array of media. After a while, I was more fascinated by the author's creativity than necessarily solving the mystery - both were very interesting.
