I'm a big Tess Gerritsen fan. I just finished Die Again. I usually don't like murder mysteries written by women because they don't seem gritty enough, but because she is also a doctor, Ms. Gerristen can write descriptively about any grisly crime. I also don't like characters that appear in sequels, but Rizzoli and Isles work well together, are tough women in a man's world and I like both of them. The mysteries never disappoint and the book is an easy and satisfying book to read.

Agatha Christie wrote some great mystery novels in her time. They are great, in my opinion, because they are not too gory but they do have enough mystery in them to make them fun to read. Other great authors that write thrillers are Frank Peretti and Ted Dekker. I hope this helps.

I loved The Dark Half by Stephen King.
It's pretty much about an author who writes horror novels under the alias, George Stark, and after he decides to "kill" Stark somebody starts acting out the gory murders of the novels on the author's coworkers and framing the author. The evidence is so strong that the author then starts to question whether or not he's actually involved with the murders. It has a huge twist at the end though that's very interesting.

sheaman wrote:Murder on the Orient Express is a great mystery book to pick up if you're looking for a good read. It's part of Agitha Chrisie's Poroit series, so if you've never really been into AC you may not like it.

The basic idea of the story is that someone has been murdered on a train that is stuck in the snow. Poroit--a professional detective--happens to be stuck on this train as well. One of the passengers is the murderer.

(I know the way I describe it the book sounds like it has the plot line of a Nancy Drew, but it's really a lot more complex and compelling.)

I have not read that one, but I have read others by Agatha Christie and I absolutely love them.

Ted Dekker and Frank Peretti are good thriller novels. They have a lot of action and always keep you on your toes. One book in particular that I would recommend is House, which is written by both authors

I literally just finished "The Good Girl" by Mary Kubica. I was so excited about the book that I just wanted to talk about it with fellow readers. It has now become a new favorite.

Alistair Maclean books were a joyous discovery for me. I borrowed my brother's copy of The Satan Bug and was hooked ! It was splendid, simply unputdownable and then I went through most of his remaining books at a frenzied pace :) :) There are many favourites -The way to dusty death, night without an end. But if I have to pick one it will be 'Fear is the key'. Its a brilliantly paced cliff hanger and the suspense is nerve wracking. Unputdownable !

I just finished reading HorrorStor by Grady Hendrix. It was honestly scary. Great characters that you want to see succeed. Amazing atmosphere steeped in rich discription that keeps the story moving forward at a fast clip and a satisfying ending. I highly recommend it.

I have read all of Harlan Cobens books. The Jack Reacher series is my favorite. Jack Reacher is the hero in all the books, but you can ready them in any order. I also like Lee Childs.

Hey all I've just started the Specialist series by the wonderful John Cutter. It's a great quick read, lots of action and tension, with a real all american hero. The first book is called A Talent for Revenge and it's available for free on Amazon this week!

If anyone's keen, I would like to recommend the Diane Fallon series by Beverly Connor. Currently, it has nine books. While I have to warn readers against the almost-perfect Diane Fallon, our female lead of this series, the books are quick, fast-paced reads. Some readers may have something against near-flawless characters, I enjoyed the books thoroughly. All nine of them. I could never put them down once I picked it up. Connor also seems to really know her forensic anthropology, at least to someone with no forensic or anthropology background at all.

My personal favorite is Lee Child's "Bad Luck and Trouble." I have read about half of his books and this is my favorite of his. It hooks him up with his old army buddies who are just as ruthless and law-ignoring as Reacher. :) FANTASTIC book!! After reading many in the series, one book kind of started to blend into another with no real difference. He's big and bad and always gets the bad guys so the books become kind of predictable but THE WRITING IS AMAZING! He's got an in-your-face style that I appreciate. If you're looking for flowery writing, he is NOT the author for you. Love his books.

I love Thomas Perry's books as well. He writes series books and the main character is Jane Whitefield. She's Native American and she protects and hides people that the law can't help. She has a million tricks for loosing a pursuer and hides from everyone what it is that she does for a living. I love that the author also puts in interesting tidbits of the Native American culture and how Jane Whitefield does what is morally agreeable to her. Whether it's illegal or not is irrelevant. My kinda chick. :) "Dance of the Dead" is my favorite in the series.

When it comes to crime, my all time favorite is AGATHA CHRISTIE, and my favorite mystery and crime books by her are "And Then There Were None", I don't think anyone wouldn't love this book, it's AMAZING and "Murder On the Orient Express".
My favorite Thriller is "The Firm" by John Grisham, it's like you're watching a movie in a book.
And my favorite horror book is "Misery" by Stephen King. I don't usually enjoy horrors, but this one was exceptional....probably because it's the only S. King I read, lol!
