Review: Justice by Scott Hughes (spoilers)

Post by Vermont Reviews »

In Scott's new book "Justice" his main character Marcus comes home to find his wife has another suitor named Brian. Which really was funny as Marcus's wife's name was Brynn. One of the great lines in the book "The funny thing about guilt is how close it lives to anger." "What do you do when you sacrifice everything for nothing?" Marcus and Brynn's relationship is like a roller-coaster. I found this book to be a very interesting read. The author has a great storytelling manner that shows the reader the emotional levels of each and every character involved in the story. When Marcus decides to take the life of his wife the law gets involved and the ending of the story has a real twist that make it a great read. Well written and thought provoking. This is one that you won't want to miss. Add it to your reading list for 2016. "His passion for his job killed the romance in his marriage." Looking forward to reading more by this author.

Nice review and I agree with you. :)

Next time please add spoilers alert since your review contains some spoilers. :no-spoil:

Here is my review:

A brief powerful psychological thriller involving disintegrating marriages, love, betrayal, loyalty, and ultimately justice.

The quote by Leo Tolstoy, "Happy families are all alike; every unhappy family is unhappy in its own way", fits this story perfectly. The story follows the lives of two sets of couples: Marcus and Brynn, Joseph and Marie, each couple is unhappy in his own miserable way. As the story unfolds, the unthinkable happens. So begins a chilling tale of love, betrayal, and vengeance.

The story is told through multiple characters' perspectives, thus giving us a better understanding of their conduct. I have to say that the author does a good job capturing the personalities of his characters. They literally burst off the pages here, perplexing in their faults.

While I can't say I agreed with all the ideas expressed in the story (the view of marriage to name one) or related to any of the characters, I did enjoy the story immensely and found it very well-written. I loved the novella and most certainly recommend it!

Great reviews here!! Here's mine! :)

The word justice is portrayed in an extremely intriguing and disturbing way here. While reading, I found the tale gripping. It left me awestruck.

Justice is separated into different parts that reflect on the three different characters' perspectives. The first two parts left me on the edge of seat as we learn about a marriage between two very different people. I found the perspectives very telling and it delves into such deep feelings and thoughts on these characters' view of their marriage.

The third perspective gave insight to another marriage, which again makes the reader question what is truly deep inside the thoughts of some husbands and wives. Both relationships were beautifully and almost tragically portrayed.

Beautifully done and can't wait to read more from Mr. Hughes! Highly recommended - a definite 4/4 star rating!

I Like the cover of the book. The first few pages describe the brynn infidelity. i loved the way i read the first ten pages and i really wanted read more to know how brynn will stay in the unhappy marriage. Also the book talks about the emotional abuse which alot of married couples go through. i would recommend everyone to read it since it is short. Thanks Scott

Magnificent, this one!!! I find it almost impossible to believe that one(Scott) could capture so many subtle awkward moments in a novella. The family is dis-integrating and I feel 'telling' it might lead to curbing it.

Thanks for review. Just from the few pages I read, I could tell the Brynn and Marcus story was going to be intense. I was intrigued what lay ahead. The spoilers I just read from your review, don't deter me from wanting to read more of the book. So... :tiphat:

I like how you've presented your review. It is short and yet you make it sound like the book is intriguing. For me, a liitle bit of spoiler is not bad. At least it gives me a hint of what to expect in the book. Good job!

We all want to know what happens behind closed doors in a marriage. Psychological thrillers like this always excite my interest, and i love the well-defined realistic characters in the book.
