When it comes to the genre I love it. Even if it's not very good; kind of like a B movie, but in book version. I've been trying to branch out a bit, so if anybody has any suggestions of authors or novels let me know. I've got Ray Garton, Robert R. McCammon, and John Saul sitting on my nightstand right now....and of course Stephen King, but who doesn't have a couple of his lying around?

Richard Matheson
Robert Bloch
In this order, my favorite horror story writers. You could check them. (you probably did check Stephen King, but the other too are not that well known).

I always find it funny when people mention Dean Koontz as a horror writer. He no doubt has horror books out there, but he had said he didn't want to be known as a horror writer. He was pushed to start writing horror books, and that's when he wrote "Phantoms"; a book that he definitely has mixed feelings about.Diegosmom34 wrote:I do, I do! I love Stephen King, Dean Koontz (both my top 2 horror writers), i also like Jonathan Maberry. the rot and ruin series. i know, i know, its young adult horror, but i like reading interesting books without all the sex mucking things up. just give me a good scare, and leave the sex for Laurel k. Hamilton. although, i kinda like her too....minus the sex
I've actually never read The Rot and Ruin series; I'll have to look into it. I was recently given The Necroscope series, and it seems to have a lot of mixed reviews. Has anyone else read it?
You also mentioned Laurel K. Hamilton. I too really enjoyed her books up until a point. It just got too much about sex for me. I did always find it odd that they stuck her in the horror section though. I know that she was one of the first mixed genres to be published, but her books always seemed more like Urban Fantasy to me. Am I the only one who feels that way?

As a kid, R.L. Stine was good at scaring me but still kept me wanting to turn the page and see what happens next. I have read one of his adult novels and it is essential a Goosebumps with sex and murder in it for adults. However, I still love the twists and turns he always provides in his books.
Peter Straub, Ted Dekker, and Frank Peretti are also very good writers who have dabbled in the horror genre and have put out some good reads as well. Overall, horror is my favorite genre and there is nothing better than reading a good horror story to keep you up at night!
