I always proofread books that I read and make notes. I have done this three or four times for friends of mine to catch basic errors. (I am no English major) Even if it is an expensive process to have it professionally done, a friend could be utilized or a similar process could be employed.

Aww shucks. Your book was great, and I love to help people. I think the author will also have friends or other resources that can help him. I really wish him the best with this, his first novel!

Good, thorough review. My first review was also about a great SF story with numerous grammatical errors. I love books, DVDs, etc., about visitors from other worlds.

Your post brought up something I noticed on this site. Sci-fi and fantasy books are a very popular genre! I am not a big sci-fi fan, but I envy readers who love this genre. Sort of like Star Trekkies. I never could get into Star Trek, but so many people love everything about Star Trek!

That is true, Owlie, I have seen a lot of it here along with a lot of supernatural style books, and I couldn't be more pleased! :) I love anything that is out of this world or beyond our scope. I greatly enjoy the challenge of acceptance and understanding that you see in a lot of sci-fi, and the good versus evil battles and morality struggles that can be seen in the supernatural genre. I particularly liked the struggle that this book presented with the returnees not being aliens, but just people that had been presented with gifts like thought-reading by the "caretakers," and the unique issue that created for human acceptance. They did not have to fear them like they would an other-worldly being, but they still didn't trust them and coveted their gifts. The lack of fear gave them greater confidence to try to control these people, and that lead to an interesting twist towards the end. I really hope to see this book edited.

Sounds all X-files. With a pinch of 1400 and half a teaspoon of Malholland Falls. I've heard about the colony of Roanoke before, and I'm still awestruck as to how an entire group of people can just disappear like that. Scary stuff. Juno sounds amazing though, thanks to your superb review.

Ha ha I like your take on it, Leon! The Roanoke colony disappearance is intriguing, I researched it a little after reading the book. His take on them being "taken" was actually pretty clever. I hope this book only gets better with future edits.

My gosh, you were so nice about being negative in this review. I can take some pointers from you. It really affects me when I have to write negative criticisms, even if I genuinely liked the book.

I hate to do it as well. I'm sure writing is like giving birth to something, and I feel like I'm attacking someone's child. But I was intrigued buy the authors background, and by the story, and I'm sure it's harder for a newer or self published author to get editing help. However, it's critical. Anyways, it was an interesting idea and a neat story that could continue to get better.
