Official Review: Legend Of The Jamaican Dragon
‘Legend of the Jamaican Dragon’ by Rashaun Smith is a short children’s graphic novel. It is a fantasy novel about a time when the earth was young and peaceful; filled with trees, plants, flowers, mystical creatures, magical mysteries, secret stories, and most important of all, dragons. The most powerful, wisest and most loving of all dragon species was named the ‘Eldest Dragon’. He protected the land from all evil creatures. There is another youngest, weakest and unnamed Baby Dragon.
Story
Then one day, a group of sailors found this land. They went in to explore. First, they built a tent. Over a period of time, they managed to build a town and even a small castle. As time went by, the dragons discovered this new human civilization. The humans settled there and the humans and dragons soon became friends.
All was well and happy, until a very tragic event took place. Little did they know that this is just the beginning. Soon a blanket of darkness descends upon the land, encasing everything good in a fog of black chaos. Will the species be able to fight over the darkness and restore peace and tranquility on the land?
Positive features of the book
From the first page, ‘Legend of the Jamaican Dragon’ is enthralling. The plot is good and clear. This short novel is well written and fun to read. The ending is especially well thought. I also like the theme and the way the plot comes up and things develop. There were no major grammatical or punctuation errors which affected the reading experience.
Negative features of the book
The only problem I could find was with the illustrations. If the illustrations had been more clear and well……awesome…….. , especially for the action part, then the book would be even more enjoyable. This book, as it deals with fantasy creatures like dragons, has a lot of potential with regard to the illustrations.
Rating
Overall, I would rate this book 3 out of 4 stars and recommend it to all young fantasy book lovers.
