And then there's my classic fantasy writer (or maybe it's classed as sci-fi), H.G Wells! 'The Invisible Man' and 'The Island of Doctor Moreau' are definitely my all time favourites!

The first one I would add is Matt Wiebusch. A couple of year's ago I reviewed his book "Unlocking the Poet's Realm". Here is a setence of what I wrote: The book is full of adventures that will keep you entrenched in the story while also teaching life lessons, such as, self-confidence and standing up to bullies.
The second author I would add is Hans Cumminings. Here is a little of what I wrote one of his books: Wings of Twilight by Hans Cummings is a fantasy that is part questing adventure and part kingdom with a twist. The author keeps us entrenched with a good storyline, well develop characters with the same flaws and concerns that everyone can identify with in ourselves or people we know.
A third one that I would like to add is Liam Parker. I review his first two books of his Omniverse series and they were both terrific.

That would be Susan Cooper. She also wrote a pair of books about a Boggart which I enjoyed immensely.H0LD0Nthere wrote:IMO, no one can beat Tolkien. I do like David Eddings, too, though he is nowhere near on the same level. But his Belgariad and Mallorean are addictive. Ursula Le Guin is awesome. As is Mercedes Lackey. Also, I don't recall the name of the author, but I like The Dark Is Rising series.
I agree with Mercedes Lackey and Tolkein, but I have to say that I recently reread the Belgariad and read the Mallorean and found them both incredibly trope-heavy, and not in the good way. I enjoyed them when I was a kid, but I suppose now I prefer things that aren't straight-up heroic fantasy (though that's still fun to read).
I'll echo a lot of people when I say Neil Gaiman. I also enjoy D. B. Jackson, a relatively new writer who does historical fantasy. Lev Grossman is also quite good, though not to everyone's taste.

I also love Matthew Reilly, he writes a lot of thrillers that always include some kind of huge crazy animal(s). I love his books!
