Science Fiction/Fantasy Book Recommendation

Post by Jay31 »

I am looking to start reading some books. I am a big fan of the futuristic robots take over the world shows like Battlestar Galactica. I loved Caprica which was a spinoff of that. Also loved Terminator Sarah Connor Chronicles. Was wondering if there are any books similar to these premises. If not some decent science fiction or fantasy book reccomendations will do. I have basically read nothing so just looking for some good books.

Tv shows I liked.

Battlestar Galactica
Caprica
Terminator Sarah Connor Chronicles
True Blood
Vampire Diaries
Heroes
Lost
4400

Many others I dont remember at the moment but this should give a good idea of what I am looking for.

My recent sci-fi read was "Asimov's Science Fiction Magazine: 30th Anniversary Anthology" published 2007 by Sheila Williams and it had some big names in it.

The following were recommended to me awhile back but I haven't read them yet:

"When Diplomacy Fails" An Anthology of Military Science Fiction
by Eric Flint and Mike Resnick (2008)

"The Mammoth Book of Extreme Science Fiction" Anthology
by Mike Ashley (2006)

"The Writer's Digest Guide to Science Fiction & Fantasy"
Non fiction by Orson Scott Card (2010)

"Graveyard of Dreams" Science Fiction Stories Collection
by H Beam Piper (2006)

They may offer some good ideas on a new author.

The yearly published 'The Year's Best Science Fiction' by editor Gardner Dozois isn't a bad place to get introduced to some authors. There's rarely a disappointing story to be found in those..
