Mister Pip

Post by gracedellis_ »

I recently read, and would highly recommend, a book called Mister Pip, by Lloyd Jones. Set in Bougainville Island in the 90s, it tells the story of a young girl whose life is shaped by the reading of Great Expectations. It's both a coming of age story and something completely different, as the main character learns the ins and outs of civil war, racism, and literature.

After reading, I found out the book was made into a film in 2013; has anyone seen it, or read the book version? I'd love to hear other people's thoughts! I found it particularly moving, and look forward to re-reading in the future.

I have read it and liked it. A great book indeed.
