Steinbeck... Updike... who?

Post by mdest »

I've just been through these two authors and am looking for another author that maybe has along the same content. Any suggestions? (I especially liked the Rabbit series by Updike)

Try an author named Richard Ford -

Titles:
The Sports Writer
Independence Day - (Pulitzer Winner)
The Lay of The Land

Wonderful reading, "sort" of reminiscent of the Rabbit series. Also very humorous. They are a series but do not necessarily need to be read in order. Independence day was my favorite.

You might want to try Germinal, by Emile Zola, which is similar to Steinbeck's The Grapes of Wrath, certainly in regards to its social commentary of an oppressed people and realist style.

Atlas Shrugged - Ayn Rand
The Glass Menagerie - Tennesee Williams
Slaughterhouse 5 - Kurt Vonnegut Jnr
Of Human Bondage - W Somerset Maugham
Inherent Vice - Thomas Pynchon
Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead - Tom Stoppard

But I do love John Updike's short stories!
