Official Review: Lady of the Manor by Adrian Heflin

It reminds me a lot of Flowers in the Attic. Have you read that, PashaRu, and if so, is this book comparable in quality (and content, as I suspect)?

It's similar in the sense that it's a very dysfunctional family with an abusive authority figure. The cause of this in Lady of the Manor is exclusively Rosemary (the mother/grandmother). The victimization is not stressed as much here, and I think the characters are better developed and the story is better told in Flowers in the Attic.

I agree. Still, even ones that are just plain disturbing (and nothing else) can be like a car accident. You don't want to look, but you can't turn away....the whole "bottleneck" thing.

Funny, I just wrote a review, the first draft of which likened the book to a car accident. Actually, I said it was like a pileup on the interstate. But the "disturbing" thing was how awful the grammar was. It is literally the worst-written book I've ever read in terms of grammar, punctuation, and syntax. Of course I gave it a "1," and the review won't be published. But on the advice of a friend I excised the car accident reference from the final draft. Probably a good thing.

Well, the car wreck simile is nicer than, say, the sinking of the Titanic or the crash of the Hindenburg.

You know, that's just deplorable. Writers like that make good self-published authors everywhere look bad. If you can't write, you can't write! That's fine, but do something else creative.
