The Asylum For Wayward Victorian Girls

Post by Wormie444 »

The Asylum For Wayward Victorian Girls is about a young women named Emilie who, due to her depression (or so it's assumed) attempted suicide by drowning in her bath tub. And, by her therapists request, admits herself into the local psychiatric wing of the nearest hospital. Where they hardly listen to her (other than the fact that she attempted suicide) and limit her belongings to some
Clothing and some books (not counting her journal) as she struggles coping with being on suicide watch (where everything can be used as a tool for suicide, except for the string they use to call nurses) and struggles with finding a writing utensil she finds that the whole psychiatric hospital is not very helpful (problems including the fact that they hardly take into consideration that she is a vegan, the head doctor seems to want her more than he wants to help her and generally being incredibly bored with nothing to do which if you have a mind that does nothing but think about depressing situations all the time is like asking for the person to try attempting suicide whilst there) when she finally convinces the nurse to let her have her journal Emilie makes a peculiar discovery in the form of a letter written by Emily (with a y) who is from the Victorian era and, as you read her story, you'll find that she has a life that consists to being lied to, being abused (her letters also implied that she was raped by said abuser) attempts suicide by jumping into the Thames (where her attempts unfortunately Fail), and being brought to the Asylum for wayward victorian girls
Led by mr Stockhill, whom you will find to be far more crazy than ANY of the girls admitted in. There she has
To cope with unsanitary conditions, rotten food, forced surgeries, rape, talking rats (whom are friendly) and leeches (which you learn to love ... Or atleast they did. As the story progresses things get far more complex and tragic as you find out how Emily copes with her new home happy near-end and tragic final ending. Whilst you find out Emilies mindset why she did what she did and why she does what she does all leading up to her surprising plottwist! In the book you will also find colored printed cardstock, drawings of leeches, satirical ads, and pictures of the author herself who is emilie autumn. The book is very pricy and costs about 70.00 dollars and can only be found on her website however it is worth every penny
