Are you happy with your life? Or are negative thoughts plaguing your morale, affecting your mood, and changing the way you see yourself and others? Well in four straightforward and easy to follow steps A. Reece, author of Negative Thought Changers promises to help you figure out what negative thoughts are affecting your life and teach you the best mechanisms for coping and bringing positivity back into your daily routine.

Negative Thought Changers is broken up into four sections, one for each “step” of Reece’s program. The first three sections focus on gathering information about your daily life:
  • What are your emotional triggers, both positive and negative?
  • What goals do you see in your ideal future?
  • Which are your favorite activities?
However it is not until you get into the book’s fourth section that you really get into the meaty bits of Negative Thought Changers, at which point Reece instructs you how to take the information you have gathered and apply it to change the way you life your daily life.

Note to anyone that is looking for a quick self-help read, Negative Thought Changers is right up your alley. At just over fifty pages, the book can probably be finished in less than an hour for the voracious bibliophile. Of course, you’ll want to spend more time actually going through the activities in the book- introspection, reflection, and journaling- but even then the entire process is relatively quick and can easily be completed over the course of one to two days. Reece even includes a notes section at the end of each chapter so that you can document your progress as you go along, a nice idea I was unable to make use of since I was reading the book in an ereader format.

All in all, I give Negative Thought Changers a 2 out of 4 stars. Certainly Reece gives some good, light advice, and her positivity is a nice refreshment for those of us who get mired in the vagaries of living. That said, Negative Thought Changers is not a paradigm-shifter. It is no The Secret and lacks the sense of a deeply-rooted central philosophy that you might find in some better self-help books out there. Readers should take it for what it is-- a nice, breezy reminder to take care of your mental health, be aware of your triggers, and keep positive if you want positivity to come back to you.
