Reading with a 3 Year old?

Post by cocoa_isley »

So, my little brother is 3 and my mom wants to put him in preschool next year. But he doesn't know his colors numbers or most of the things he should. But he really loves when I read to him. How can I incorporate reading the book he wants with his learning without taking his interest off of the book?

Picture books are helpful for young children. You can discuss what is seen on the pages. Pick out blue items, count flowers on a page, etc. Kids will pick it up quickly. Maybe read Dr. Suess, One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish.. it may help. Also, it can be helpful to read road Signs and store signs when out and about. Ex., we are going to Kmart, see the sign, what color is the K... that sort of thing.
