Like many people here my parents always read to me as a child. My mom loved literature and I started exploring her library at a young age. I was a lonely kid, so books were my friends--they were entertainment, sources of new ideas about the world, and something that felt like companionship.

Though we're not close - My father. It 100% comes from my father.

Retired now, he was a sailor. He went in and out for a month on and month off when he worked. He has his own personal library of books - all fantasy. My love of both fantasy, gaming and reading comes from him.

My mom always wanted me to read because she did as well and it stimulates the creative ways and all that. But it wasn't till I was 13/14 that I started reading. My granddad bought me a book for my Christmas and it was the first book in a fantasy series ( no not harry potter :p !! ) and since then I knew I liked fantasy and I kept reading more and more, I guess he knew what kind of genre would make me read.

My sister is four years my senior. I used to bring her stacks of books and say, "read me," and she would. I learned to read and to love it thanks to her.

My parents.
Being a curious child, I always wanted to know what they were doing especially when my mom would whip out a Dean Koontz or James Patterson. She could sit for hours reading and I wanted to know what was so great about it.

My family was kind of poor and didn't own a lot of books when I was a kid, so I never really experienced "reading" for fun until maybe 3rd grade, when my teacher had us do book reports for the first time.
But it was definitely my 5th grade teacher, Ms. Paige, who made me realize how much I loved reading. She had a huge, personal library of books for kids our age, and she wouldn't hesitate to let us borrow her books. After that school year ended, I became a member of the local library, and I was the one who introduced my mom and my sisters to reading for fun. WEIRD.

I come from a long line of readers. My mother, her 2 sisters, and their mother all loved to read. There was always books in the house and the subject matter was always appropriate for readers of any age.

Both of my parents instilled the love os stories in me. My mother always told us stories at bedtime, usually ones she'd made up herself, and my father invariably had his head inside a novel when he got home from work. He was the one who introduced me to the library - a wonderful place, full of amazing things called books!

I think I claimed before that it was a teacher I had sometime down my elementary school road, but it might have been my older sister. She taught me to read when I was quite young. She made me feel special for knowing how to read.

My mother passed down her love of reading to me. Growing up she was always reading a book at night, normally a Nora Roberts or J.D. Rob. But I didn't enjoy reading until my junior year of high school. Now I read constantly (although it irritates my spouse to no end!! :D ).

My grandma! She was a kindergarten teacher and so was great with kids and also really great at telling stories. I immediately got hooked on the storytelling part and couldn't wait to get more stories under my belt.
