Mmm Bret Easton Ellis - American Psycho

Post by Abagayle »

Has anyone read him?
American Psycho was definitley brilliant...

What are opinions / theories on the motif of Patrick having to return video tapes?

I'm curious, I haven't fully figgered it out yet. =]

Ellis is AMAZING, I reccomend getting your feet wet with Lunar Park THEN reading American Psycho.

Why should I read Lunar Park first? Just curious.

OH. Its a fictional autobiography, definitley his mildest but most addicting book. A friend and I were just discussing American Psycho and all the negative feedback it gets, and decided by reading about Ellis, in a sense and his feeling about the book, you have a better understanding author-wise before reading Psycho. *shrug* Its a good book no matter what, if you haven't read any Ellis you should do so. =]

I know. Shame I wasn't able to get it. Mine's pretty cool looking too, key lime green and all that, but the one in my avatar was a special one.

Thank you though.

I finally read American Psycho and I don't know why I was in such a rush to read the book. I had many friends tell me I should read it and then see the movie. But I read this book and didn't like it as much as I wanted to. It was too gory, even for me to get through. I couldn't stand the parts when there was too much detail. It got boring very quickly to have to read exactly what everyone was wearing even single day of Patrick Bateman's life. I'll admit I originally wanted to read the book so I could go see the play on Broadway, but unfortunately it closed before I could get the chance. And don't get me started with the killing of dogs in the books, that was unbearable.
